Today, 10 September, we mark World Su***de Prevention Day - a day that reminds us of the importance of compassion, connection and being there for one another.

Behind a smile, a silence or a simple “I’m fine”, someone may be carrying more than we realise. Many people experience moments of loneliness, emotional pain, mental-health struggles, relationship difficulties or situations that feel impossible to manage alone.

We may not always have the right words, but we can choose to listen. We can check in, make space for an honest conversation and offer support without judgement. A message, a phone call or simply staying beside someone can make them feel seen, heard and less alone.

Today, let’s choose compassion over judgement, connection over silence and understanding over assumptions. Let’s remind the people around us, and ourselves, that asking for help is not a weakness. It is an act of courage.

If you are going through a difficult time, you do not have to face it alone. Supportline 179 is available 24/7 to offer support to people experiencing emotional distress, loneliness, mental-health difficulties, suicidal thoughts, relationship problems or domestic violence.

You matter!
Your feelings matter!
Your life matters!
Reaching out could be the first step towards feeling supported again.💛💜

Family support can bring comfort, reassurance, and peace of mind during life's changing moments. Supporting a loved one does not mean having to manage everything alone.

Sometimes family support is listening. Sometimes it is helping with daily routines, joining a care conversation, or simply being present. With the right support around you, care becomes less overwhelming and more human.

At IDEA Care, we believe that every family deserves to feel supported, heard, and understood. We believe in care that sees the person behind the need - honouring their routines, their dignity, and their right to live as independently as possible. We believe no one should face difficult moments in silence.

Because care is not one-size-fits-all. It should adapt around the person. And every person deserves care with dignity, respect, and compassion. 💜🤲

Behind every meaningful conversation are the people who bring their knowledge, experience and perspective to it.

As we prepare for the IDEA Group Research Symposium 2026, we are pleased to introduce our panelists: Dr Luca Nguyen, George Bonello, Dr Karl Spiteri, Oliver Scicluna and Dr Yaser Teebi.

Get to know the professionals behind this year’s panel:

✨ Dr Luca Nguyen is a Senior Consultant at IDEA Consulting, with over a decade of experience delivering research-led engagements for organisations including Amgen, Novartis, the World Health Organization (WHO) and government ministries in Malta. His work focuses on organisational strategy, workforce development and digital transformation, including research on skills gaps in Malta’s healthcare sector.

✨ George Bonello is a qualified nurse with experience in Emergency and Admissions, operating-theatre nursing and radiology services at St Luke’s Hospital. He helped establish the Cathlab at the Radiology Department and later became Cathlab Manager/Nursing Officer. In 1990, he co-founded Godrico Ltd, later becoming Sidroc Services Ltd, which provides medical, rehabilitation, home-care, oxygen and physiotherapy services, including angiography simulation training in Malta and abroad.

✨ Dr Karl Spiteri is Lead (Entity Management) at St Vincent de Paul, a physiotherapist, researcher and academic. He has held clinical and leadership roles, including leading physiotherapy services within mental health and long-term care. He holds a PhD from Coventry University focusing on physical activity and sedentary behaviour during the retirement transition, and his work focuses on promoting physical activity and healthy ageing. He is currently the lead researcher on the Intelligent Screening for Older Persons (ISOP) project and a researcher on the THCS projects MUSCLE and PROHEALTH.

✨ Oliver Scicluna is CEO of Aġenzija Sapport, a disability-rights advocate and social reformer who has dedicated his career to advancing inclusion and equal opportunities. A co-founder of Breaking Limits, Malta’s first cross-disability self-advocacy NGO, he has served as Chairperson and later Commissioner of the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability. He now leads disability-sector reforms, including the national deinstitutionalisation policy, personal assistance and personal budget reforms, and expanded community inclusion programmes. In 2025, he received the European Social Network’s Leadership in Social Services Award.

✨ Dr Yaser Teebi is a Clinical Psychologist and Gerontologist specialising in Geriatrics and Gerontology, and currently serves as Director for Community Wellbeing within Malta’s Active Ageing and Community Care Department. He brings almost nine years of clinical practice at a leading rehabilitation hospital, with experience relating to neurological conditions, grief, loss and the psychological effects of chronic illness. Living with Parkinson’s can bring changes that others may not always see.

A slower walk. A hand that shakes. A pause before speaking. Moments that may affect balance, coordination, confidence, and everyday routines. But Parkinson’s does not define a person’s personality, experiences, relationships, hopes, or value.

Behind every diagnosis is a whole person - someone who deserves patience, understanding, respect, and the space to live life in their own way.

This is a reminder to slow down, listen with patience, and offer support in ways that preserve independence. A kind word, a little understanding, and simply being present can make a meaningful difference.

At IDEA Care, we believe care begins with seeing the person first - always.💜

Personal care support should protect dignity, comfort, and choice - every day. 💜

Personal care is deeply personal. It is not simply about completing a task; it is about respecting privacy, explaining each step, and creating a calm, comfortable environment where a person feels safe and understood.

At IDEA Care, our personal care at home is tailored around the individual - their routines, preferences, needs, and dignity. From everyday elderly support to respectful, person-centred care, we believe everyone deserves to feel listened to, valued, and in control. 🤝🏡

Because the right support can make everyday life feel safer, gentler, and more comfortable.

A few quiet moments to listen, share a story, or simply check in can ease loneliness and remind someone that they are not alone. For older people and individuals living with disability, these moments of genuine connection can be just as meaningful as practical support.

At IDEA Care, we believe every person deserves to feel heard, valued, and cared for. Because care is not only about helping with daily tasks - it is about being present, building trust, and making every person feel seen.💜

Sometimes, the smallest conversation can make the biggest difference.🌱
