MRIC Designated as the National Focal Point for Space Matters

We are pleased to announce that the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC) operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, has officially been designated as the National Focal Point for Space Matters by the Government of Mauritius.

In this capacity, MRIC will play a key coordinating role in space-related matters at the national level, working collaboratively with relevant local and international stakeholders to support the engagement of Mauritius in the global space arena.

All correspondence, communications, and requests for information relating to space matters should henceforth be directed to:

🌍 MRIC Welcomes WIPO Director General

The Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC) had the pleasure of welcoming Mr Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), along with WIPO officials Ms Beatriz Amorim-Borher, Ms Loretta Asiedu and Ms Julieta Nhane, for a working session with MRIC Executive Director, Prof. Theesan Bahorun, Chairperson Dr Khemduth Singh Angateeaah, and MRIC Officials, on Friday, 11 September 2026, at the MRIC premises.

The session provided a valuable opportunity to exchange views and explore avenues for strengthening collaboration in the areas of intellectual property, innovation, science and technology.

MRIC looks forward to fostering stronger partnerships with WIPO and creating new opportunities to further support and strengthen Mauritius’ innovation ecosystem. 🇲🇺🤝🌍

Help Us Map the Future of Innovation in Mauritius!

The Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC), under the aegis of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, has launched the 2nd Business Innovation Survey (BIS) to capture innovation activities across enterprises in the formal sector.

The survey covers the three (3) financial years 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 and seeks to collect data on key innovation indicators, including product and service innovation.

How to Participate?

All eligible enterprises are strongly encouraged to participate by contacting DCDM Research team (see contact details below) by 31st December 2026.

Your response matters! Your insights will help strengthen Mauritius’s national innovation ecosystem and inform policies for a more innovative economy.

The visit provided an opportunity to explore potential areas of collaboration and partnership in space, science, technology and innovation.

Mauritius to Share Its Space Journey at the 71st Virtual UNISEC-Global Meeting.

We are pleased to share that Dr Vickram Bissonauth, Research Coordinator at the MRIC will be speaking at the 71st Virtual, University Space Engineering Consortium (UNISEC)-Global Meeting on 15 August 2026 during the J-CUBE/KiboCUBE Session.

His presentation, entitled :"From KiboCUBE to Capability: How MIR-SAT1 Shaped the Space Journey of Mauritius", will showcase how the KiboCUBE programme enabled Mauritius to launch it's first satellite, MIR-SAT1, and how this subsequently sparked the development of the country's space capabilities.

The presentation will highlight the progress of Mauritius in the space sector, from the successful launch of its first satellite to the development of a national Space Strategy, alongside growing international collaborations and efforts to harness space technologies for national development and innovation.

We thank UNISEC-Global and JAXA for the invitation and look forward to sharing Mauritius' space journey with the international community.
