“Sustainable Innovation and Research Transformation for our Future” The objectives of the MRIC, as enunciated in the new Act, are as follows:
a.

promote and coordinate applied research, innovation and research and development according to the needs of the country and to improve the quality of life;
b. foster a research, innovation and entrepreneurship culture;
c. encourage the development and application of advanced and innovative technology to meet the needs of industries;
d. enhance private sector participation in research and developm

e. promote commercial utilisation of the results of research and development and innovation, in the national interest.

Celebrating Innovation, Creativity, and Impact!
The 4th edition of the National Innovation Challenge successfully concluded with its Award Ceremony held on Saturday, 13 June 2026, at the Trianon Convention Centre.
This milestone event brought together bright minds, bold ideas, and inspiring solutions that reflect the creativity and innovation potential of Mauritius. We are proud to celebrate all participants, finalists, winners, mentors, jury members, partners, and stakeholders who contributed to making this edition a success.
The National Innovation Challenge continues to provide a platform for innovators to showcase practical, forward-looking solutions and to contribute meaningfully to our national innovation ecosystem.

In Memory of Vincent Ah-Chuen

Mauritius has lost a towering figure of creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation. Mr. Vincent Ah-Chuen was a visionary in every sense, his pioneering work in sustainable development and innovation earned him the Best National Innovator – Individual at the MRIC's National Innovator Hall of Fame 2025. His legacy lives on in every business he shaped, every innovation he championed, and every life he touched.

Space Innovation, Public-Private partnerships and Strategic competitiveness: this was the topic of fruitful and passionate discussions with Jim Adams, former NASA deputy chief of Technologies. The panelists were Craig Habmaier, charge d'affairs of the US Embassy, Dr Vikram Bissonauth, Research Coordinator and Professor Theesan Bahorun, Executive Director of the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council. Discussions moderated by John Ries Consul of the US Embassy, covered grassroot innovation, space entrepreneurship, collaboration with NASA, use of satellite data for climate change, environmental issues, agricultural practices coastal management and protection of our maritime economic zone from illegal fishing. The pertinence of training of researchers in satellite data analyses and AI use was emphasised amongst others. This panel discussion was organised by the US embassy under the Freedom250: Artemis and US Leadership in Space Innovation program.
