Marios Vitos, First Counsellor and Head of Political, Press and Information took part on Saturday in the launch of activities for the World Clean-up Day organised jointly by the District Council of Pamplemousses, the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change and the Ministry of Local Government in Pamplemousses.

He joined the Hon Rajesh Anand Bhagwan, Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change and the Hon Ranjiv Woochit , Minister of Local Government for a symbolic tree-planting ceremony followed by a clean-up activity. Both Ministers thanked the refuse collectors and the team of Mauri-Facilities , which operates under the Ministry of Environment, for the important work they are doing in cleaning various sites across the island. They acknowledged the support that the European Union is providing to Mauritius in addressing environmental challenges. The Minister of Environment also announced higher financial sanctions against persons practising illegal dumping.

La FINALE de SLAMIZIK approche 🔥

Après plusieurs semaines de sélection et une demi-finale intense, place au dernier rendez-vous de l’aventure, le 25 septembre au Café Du Vieux Conseil !

Nos finalistes monteront sur scène une dernière fois pour défendre leurs textes et tenter de remporter cette première édition. Et pour ouvrir cette soirée, Eric Triton assurera la première partie !

L’événement est ouvert au public et l’entrée est gratuite. Venez nombreux assister à la finale et soutenir les finalistes !

Merci à tous les participants, au jury et à toute l’équipe qui fait vivre SLAMIZIK depuis le début.

Après plusieurs semaines de sélection et une demi-finale intense, place au dernier rendez-vous de l’aventure, le 25 septembre au Café Du Vieux Conseil !

Nos finalistes monteront sur scène une dernière fois pour défendre leurs textes et tenter de remporter cette première édition. Et pour ouvrir cette soirée, Eric Triton assurera la première partie !

⏰ Plus que quelques jours pour vous inscrire ! 🎶
Le concours est ouvert aux musiciennes, musiciens, chanteuses et chanteurs du répertoire classique de compositeurs de tout le continent européen.

Deux catégories sont proposées :
🎻 Catégorie instrumentale : solo ou ensemble
🎤 Catégorie vocale : ensemble

Catégorie instrumentale - groupes d'âge :
• moins de 12 ans
• 12 à 17 ans
• 18 ans et plus
⏰ Plus que quelques jours pour vous inscrire ! 🎶

Les participants de la catégorie instrumentale devront proposer l'interprétation d'une œuvre ou d'un mouvement d'une œuvre d'un compositeur européen.

Catégorie vocale :
Les ensembles vocaux doivent comprendre de 2 à 12 personnes, sans limite d'âge.
Le morceau choisi peut être interprété avec accompagnement au piano ou a ca****la.

✅ Durée maximale de l'interprétation : 7 minutes
✅ Les participants peuvent jouer ou chanter par cœur ou avec partition

📍 Auditions : du 17 au 19 septembre 2026
au Conservatoire national de musique François Mitterrand
Pour les auditions, les participants devront se présenter avec leurs instruments (à l'exception du piano) et, si nécessaire, avec leur accompagnateur.

Un jury indépendant sélectionnera les finalistes.
La décision du jury sera finale et sans appel.

🏆 Prix
Les finalistes participeront à la grande finale au Caudan Arts Centre le 18 octobre.
Chaque gagnant de chaque groupe d'âge et de chaque catégorie recevra un trophée et une récompense.

🎻✨ Where Talent Meets Confidence and Growth
As the Grand Concours application deadline draws closer on 15 September, we are delighted to share the testimony of the parent of Isha, a participant whose journey beautifully reflects the spirit of this competition:

“Listening to my daughter Isha fiddling on her violin gives me immense satisfaction, but watching her play her music live in front of an attentive crowd is just another level. As parents, we are very thankful to Immedia and the European Union for providing a platform for our young musicians to not only showcase their talent and shine on a stage amidst music lovers; but also, to challenge themselves, learn from their peers and boost their confidence. In 2020, we deemed Isha too young to participate in the Beethoven edition although at that time, she had expressed her interest for same! But in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, she did not miss the opportunity to learn a new piece, each time from a different composer/era and perform for the Grand Concours. And Isha has been among the finalists in 2022, 2023 and the winner in 2025, the result of her dedication and constant hard work. Her live renditions of Mozart, Vivaldi and Bach still resonate in my head.

Over the years, I have watched Isha grow through these Concours. From the nurturing of the amazing Immedia Mauritius team, and the discreet jury, to the support of the representatives of the EU delegation in Mauritius, the Grand Concours has become a time of the year that we look forward to. But behind every string pulled are countless hours of practice and unrelentless coaching by her Violin teachers from the time she was 8 years old to date, and we are very grateful for that. Thus, the Grand Concours is more than a mere competition. It is like a talent laboratory which starts right during the preliminary rounds, through the rehearsals and culminating on the D day: each time Isha has left the scene of the Caudan Arts Centre, she has carried with her much more than her violin in her case...”

📢 We are pleased to announce the opening of a Call for Proposals/Projects, part of an EU-funded project on Circular Economy in the Built Environment in Mauritius & Rodrigues.

This Call is issued under the project "Implementation of the Circular Economy Roadmap – Republic of Mauritius", implemented by Expertise France, and aims to award grant contracts to organisations active in the construction value chain in Mauritius and Rodrigues.

Main subjects & objectives
The call aims to accelerate the transition to a circular economy in the construction sector by supporting concrete, inclusive and replicable circular solutions, in particular to:
- Strengthen cooperation between public and private actors in the construction value chain and build MSME capacity and collaboration
- Divert construction and demolition waste from landfill/illegal disposal, in line with the waste hierarchy
- Demonstrate and scale up reuse and recycling practices in construction and demolition activities
- Strengthen capacities to measure and monitor circular economy and waste management impacts
- Promote inclusive entrepreneurship, with a focus on women-owned/led businesses
- Support sustainable, replicable models, including potential replication in Rodrigues

Funding available
- Total envelope: €330,000
- Grant amounts: between €50,000 and €110,000
- Minimum co-financing: 20%

Produit emblématique de Rodrigues, le limon Rodrig a obtenu le label d’indication géographique protégée (IGP) sous la législation mauricienne.

Ce succès est le résultat de plusieurs années d’efforts de la part des acteurs rodriguais et du soutien de l’Union européenne dans le cadre du programme d’appui à la mise en œuvre de l’Accord de Partenariat Economique (APE) intérimaire entre l’Union européenne et Maurice.

Reconnue en tant que propriété intellectuelle, l’Indication Géographique a pour objectif de promouvoir les caractéristiques uniques d’un produit liées à l’origine géographique et au savoir-faire traditionnel et de le protéger contre toute imitation ou toute utilisation abusive de cette dénomination. Elle donne au produit une meilleure réputation et représente un gage de qualité qui offre de meilleures perspectives pour les producteurs et les entreprises qui le commercialisent.

L’éventuelle protection de l’Indication Géographique des produits mauriciens au sein de l’UE aussitôt que l’Accord de Partenariat Economique (APE) approfondi entre l’UE et Maurice sera mise en œuvre pourrait amplifier des retombées socioéconomiques, notamment en stimulant les exportations vers l’UE et ainsi aider à pérenniser les emplois dans les zones de productions locales rodriguaises.

Le saviez-vous ?
En décembre 2024, le « sucre non raffiné de Maurice » a obtenu une protection nationale en tant qu'indication géographique avec le soutien de l'Office de l'Union européenne pour la propriété intellectuelle (EUIPO).

🎹 🎼 A Musical Journey of Dedication, Perseverance & Joy
As the Grand Concours applications is closing in on the 15th of September, we are pleased to share the testimony of the parents of a winner from a past edition of the competition:

“Our son Tariyen Cunapudy won his very first musical prize at the age of 11, when he participated in the Grand Concours of classical music, “RAMEAU A RAVEL”, competition organized by Immedia Mauritius in collaboration with the European Union. For us as parents, this achievement was the culmination of a journey filled with dedication, discipline, hard work and above all a deep love for music.

We were encouraged by the Frederic Chopin Conservatory of Music to enroll Tariyen in this competition as they knew he had the potential to express himself through music. Mr. Dean Nookadu, his piano teacher, proposed the baroque piece “Le Petit Rien” by the French Composer Francois Couperin. Thanks to the coaching received, his regular practice at home and further personal research and preparation, Tariyen conveyed the right style and performance on stage to the appreciation of the public and the jury members.

‘Sometimes I felt tired after long rehearsals but remained focused on the contest. With the support of my parents and my music teacher, I could show my feelings through the music and I was glad the public liked my performance on stage. I felt very happy and proud when I heard my name as the winner in my category. After the broadcast on TV, I also became a little star in my school’ - said Tariyen.

Looking back, the greatest reward of this experience goes beyond the prize itself. The competition helped Tariyen grow not only as a young musician but also as a young person.”
