One of the most significant development projects undertaken at Male' Commercial Harbor over the past 39 years was the construction of the Quay (Magathu Faalan) in 1997.

Prior to its development, port operations faced several challenges that affected efficiency and performance. The construction of the Quay formed part of Phase II of the Male' Commercial Harbor Development Project.

The Quay was officially inaugurated on 11 June 1997, 29 years ago today. Its development marked a major milestone in improving port operations and efficiency and, to this day, it remains the only designated quay for container vessels at Male' Commercial Harbor.
