The Enterprise Trust is particularly mindful of the additional challenges currently facing Pitt Islanders, especially through the winter months when current fuel crisis costs will place real pressure on households and essential services.

To help support Pitt Island, the Trust is putting two practical measures in place.

First, we will provide discounted avgas freight support for the Pitt Island plane operated by Air Chathams. This is intended to help ensure that this important service can continue to operate for the Pitt Island community.

Second, the Trust will provide a diesel home heating subsidy for Pitt Island households and the schoolhouse over the next three winter months (June - August). This will be based on 20 litres per week and paid as an end of month cash grant.

We know these measures will not remove all of the pressure being felt, but we hope they will provide some practical relief where it is most needed and certainty for the ongoing plane service.

Together with the Chatham Islands Council, the Trust has raised these issues with Ministers a number of times since the fuel crisis first started. We will continue to advocate for practical Government support, while also doing what we can locally to help reduce the immediate pressure on households, businesses, transport, energy and other key services across the Chatham Islands.

Kia ora / kฤซoranga - the price of diesel will increase to $3.84/L (GST inc) on Wednesday 20 May 2026. The price of petrol remains unchanged.

We continue to monitor closely what remains a volatile fuel market.

Kia ora / kฤซoranga - Diesel pricing at the pump is now $2.44 per litre per the earlier announced 15 cents per litre increase.

On 1 May the diesel price will increase to $3.28 per litre.

Petrol pricing remains unchanged at this time and we have good stocks of both petrol and diesel.

The Enterprise Trust will continue to cushion the price increases we are facing by adjusting the pump price based on where we are at with our purchased fuel arriving to the pump.

With events continuing in the Middle East, this has meant fuel pricing has significantly increased. However, when the purchase price of our fuel begins to drop so too will the pump price as that fuel reaches the pump. In the meantime we'll continue to give two weeks' notice of price increases (and hopefully decreases at some point).
