We’re proud to share that Citycare Water has been appointed by South Wairarapa District Council to deliver the district’s three waters operations, maintenance, and reactive renewals from 1 July 2026.

We’re looking forward to working alongside Council to keep drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services safe, reliable and resilient for the South Wairarapa community.

Thank you to the South Wairarapa District Council for trusting in us — we can’t wait to get started.

We are pleased to share that Citycare Water will deliver the district’s three waters operations, maintenance, and reactive renewals from 1 July 2026. 💧

Since 2019, Wellington Water has managed water, wastewater, and stormwater services for South Wairarapa. From 1 July 2026, Wellington Water will operate as Tiaki Wai (Metro Water) to serve several Wellington councils, creating a one-year gap for South Wairarapa before the Wairarapa Tararua water entity is operational from 1 July 2027.

Throughout the procurement process, Citycare Water impressed us with their strong resources, proven systems, and clear methodology. 🚰

Our priority is to ensure safe, reliable water services for our community, at a cost that aligns with our Long-Term Plan, and we are confident in their ability to deliver on both fronts. ✔️

We will work closely with Wellington Water and contractors to retain skilled local staff, ensuring expertise remains in our community.

Citycare Water is New Zealand’s largest provider of three waters operations and maintenance services and was South Wairarapa’s water operator before Wellington Water came on board.

We’re honoured to be recognised by Conservation Volunteers NZ for our contribution to the Papakura Stream Restoration Programme and the Ōtākaro Avon River project.🌱

Together, our teams have contributed to the planting of over 42,000 native trees. These efforts help stabilise riverbanks, prevent sediment runoff, strengthen biodiversity, and create thriving habitats for native species.🌳

Restoring waterways is a shared responsibility, and we are proud to stand alongside partners and communities making a lasting difference. 🙌

We look forward to continuing this important work together in 2026🤝

Heavy rain, flooding, slips, and storm damage have caused challenging circumstances for communities across the country over the past week. Our teams have been out and about, responding quickly and professionally to support councils and keep essential water services running.

From Wellington and Masterton to Christchurch and Dunedin, our crews have deployed diversion barriers, diggers, and other proactive measures to protect properties and water networks.

Thankful to our team for all the hard work they're putting in! We appreciate their teamwork, long hours and dedication to keeping your communities safe and connected.

We’re incredibly proud of our team in Dunedin for their fast and proactive planning with the DCC 3Waters Team in response to the heavy rain currently impacting the Otago region.

Our crews have been out and about in the heavy rain conditions, checking and clearing stormwater intake screens, responding to reactive work, closing streets where required, and closely monitoring high-risk areas throughout the storm.

Yesterday, the team also introduced some new measures of using new wet-weather diversion barriers for the first time to help ease pressure on Dunedin City Council’s Three Waters network.

The wet-weather diversion barriers were installed on Surrey Street and worked well in stopping water from reaching private properties on the street.

Our thoughts are with the Otago communities and everyone across the country affected by this severe weather. Please stay safe and look out for one another.

We recently partnered with Wonder Project, a school programme by Engineering New Zealand that inspires young Kiwis to explore STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths).

Through their Water Challenge, Year 8 and 9 students learn how water (wai) is collected, cleaned, connected, and cared for across Aotearoa by building and testing a mini model of New Zealand’s water network.

For us at Citycare Water, it’s a great way to expand this hands-on programme to more schools around the country in 2026, aligning with our mission of Safe Water for Life and encouraging future pathways in the water industry💧

Great to see our Dunedin team recognised in the Otago Daily Times for the amazing work they do 🙌

After being called out at 4am on Monday when a burst water main flooded Hillside Road, the crew worked tirelessly through the early hours and into the next day to repair the main and support Dunedin City Council in restoring water to the community.

Fortunately, no nearby properties were affected, and a water tanker was made available for locals during the repair. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, the main was fixed the next day, and the roads reinstated by Wednesday afternoon.

We’re so proud of our team for their quick, effective response and for keeping residents informed every step of the way.👏

Citycare contractors work to shut the water main in Hillside Rd, South Dunedin, about 4am yesterday after it burst and flooded the surrounding area...
