Great work!

A Labour Government will deliver fairer grocery prices by taking on the big supermarkets. We’ll break their grip on the market and give smaller supermarkets access to the same wholesale prices as the big companies, so stop you being ripped off.

While Christopher Luxon and National are promising more ‘reviews’, Labour will take decisive action. Here’s how we’ll do it:

-Better prices for shoppers. More competition means fairer grocery prices.
-A better deal for small grocers. All grocers will get better access to wholesale products.
-More choice. It’ll be easier for new supermarkets and independent grocers to grow.
-A better deal for producers. We’ll stop supermarkets charging suppliers unfair fees.

This is part of our wider plan to lower costs, alongside a $20 public transport fare cap, three free GP visits, making price gouging illegal and freezing fuel tax for three years.

Better starts now.

Today, under urgency the government passed thier "Move on Orders". A law which requires homeless people to move out of sight at risk of criminal prosecution, which gives the police the power to move someone who is hungry, simply for asking for food. This law does not create one more bed or feed one more person. It simply tries to hide the problems that our society has, and which have become worse under this government.

Labour will ban price gouging.

New Zealanders are working hard. They deserve a fair price for the essentials.

But when only a handful of big companies control the things people need - like groceries, power and fuel - they have the power to charge unfair prices, simply because customers have nowhere else to go.

Right now, there's no law against excessive price gouging. Labour will change that, so that the big companies can’t rip you off, and you and your family can save more money.

This is all part of our plan to help Kiwis get ahead.

We will:
- Make employer contributions compulsory from 1 July 2028, rising to 6% by 2032 - including when employees reduce or pause their own contributions
- Set the employee default at 4%, remove the minimum contribution rate, and let people adjust contributions as circumstances change
- Ban new total remuneration contracts that absorb employer contributions into salary
- Give parents a KiwiSaver contribution during paid parental leave
- Extend employer contributions to people working beyond 65, from 1 July 2028
- Look at ways to improve KiwiSaver for the self-employed
