450 donations...with 500 in sight! 🎉

Steve from Christchurch just gave his 450th plasma donation. That is an incredible milestone, helping to save countless lives and make a real difference for patients and their whānau across Aotearoa.

Did you know there are people throughout the motu who rely on plasma-derived immunoglobulin treatments every week just to stay well enough to safely leave their homes? These life-changing treatments are only possible because of generous plasma donors.

We are incredibly honoured to have Steve donating plasma with us every two weeks alongside his fellow Blood Brothers. His commitment, generosity, and dedication are making a lasting impact on so many lives.

With 450 donations now under his belt, could a 500-donation milestone be on the horizon? 👀

Donor Spotlight: Erin! 🌟

A huge shout out to Erin from Fairlie, who went above and beyond to donate plasma at our Addington Donor Centre this week.

Erin usually donates whole blood at the Timaru blood drive, but while in Christchurch for a course, she took the opportunity to fit in a plasma donation. Even better, her boss drove her to the donor centre to make it happen!

Now that's teamwork and community spirit in action. 👏

Thank you, Erin, for helping save lives, and thank you to your employer for supporting such an important cause. You're both legends!

Huge milestone alert! 400 donations from Glen.

Massive appreciation and congratulations to Glen Walker, who recently reached the incredible milestone of 400 donations. As you can imagine for someone who gives 400+ lifesaving donations, Glen is a great guy and is very popular with the NZBlood team. Consequently, the NZBS crew were thrilled to celebrate his monumental achievement! 👏🎉

Glen has displayed amazing commitment to helping patients across Aotearoa. Reaching 400 donations is a huge feat — it represents significant time, commitment, generosity, and dedication to saving lives.

Distance no barrier to big donation tally

Albury resident Andrew recently gave his 150th donation with NZBlood. Many thanks and congratulations for your generosity and community spirit Andrew.

What makes Andrew’s donation tally even more remarkable is the distance he travels and logistics he manages to maintain a regular donation schedule. Albury is not just around the corner from the Tuam St donor centre – it is located between Pleasant Point and Fairlie and is a 190km or 2.5hr drive to Christchurch.

That’s not where Andrew’s remarkable story ends. Most of his donation dashes to Christchurch are undertaken on one his several motor scooters. Additionally, there’s been plenty trips courtesy of well-meaning South Canterbury and Mackenzie locals including truckies, fishing guides, and good-sort motorists who responded to community facebook posts.

Thanks again Andrew, on behalf of countless recipient patients and the NZBlood team. It’s an incredible journey you’ve made and continue to make all the way from whole blood donations in Timaru to plasma donations at Tuam St, via Albury of course!

*Rodger joins the 100 club*

Christchurch donor Rodger joined a special club recently when he gave his 100th donation of blood, plasma, and platelets. Happy to help whenever he can with whatever donation type is needed by patients, Rodger is a special lifesaver and we’re hugely grateful to have him in our donor community. Thank you!

Keep it in the family…you bet!

It was great to welcome Thomas back onto NZBlood’s lifesaving team when he stepped-up last week to make his 2nd donation (his previous donation was in 2010). Thanks heaps, Thomas! Living in a remote part of New Zealand has made it tricky for Thomas to donate but the moons aligned when he visited his son Jerome here in Christchurch. It just so happens that Jerome works for NZBlood and is a donor himself. It was a lovely moment when Jerome performed the phlebotomy for his dad’s donation and everyone in the donor centre was stoked. Thanks to you both and hopefully we see you again soon Thomas – although we can’t always promise you a blood-related donor technician!
