Tomorrow, Friday 15 May, is Pink Shirt Day.
Pink Shirt Day is a movement focused on reducing bullying and fostering kindness. This is a conversation that remains vitally important for our young people, especially as they navigate the complexities of social media.
For DNI, tomorrow will be an ordinary school day. Students are expected to wear their standard school uniform, but they are encouraged to add a pink shirt to their uniform to show their support.
Note: There will be no collection of money for this event.
Action Over Fashion
We believe that wearing a pink shirt in isolation makes zero difference. To ensure the day has a real impact, our staff will be engaging with students throughout the day.
If a student is wearing pink, they will be asked to share specific actions they are taking to help reduce bullying. We discussed this in our assembly this morning, and the following suggestions were put forward:
Report hate speech or nasty comments on social media.
Avoid joining exclusionary or toxic group chats.
Call out peers when they make hurtful remarks.
Practice integrity: Do not say things online that you wouldn't say to someone’s face.
We encourage you to have a conversation with your child tonight about what "action" they plan to take tomorrow.
