Hastings Intermediate

Hastings Intermediate School for Year 7 and 8 students in Hawkes Bay, NZ. Hastings Intermediate first opened its doors in 1954 with a roll of 666.

It was the first intermediate school in Hastings. A population explosion saw the roll climb to 961 in 1959. Classes were held in every available space and a 7 day timetable was used to accommodate everyone. The opening of a second intermediate eased the pressure on Hastings Intermediate and its roll returned to a level that the school could cope with. Two devastating fires have helped shape Hastin

gs Intermediate into its present state. In 1984 a block of classrooms and a resource room were destroyed. The second fire in 2006 saw the school lose its hall. This was replaced by the new performing arts centre which was opened in 2008. The causes of both fires have never been determined.

Reminder: STAFF ONLY DAY, tomorrow, TUESDAY 2 JUNE, for MoE-directed professional development on the new Maths and Statistics curriculum. Students back on Wednesday, 3 June.

Thank you to those who have followed our request not to park over our neighbours' driveways at drop-off and pick-up times. We have another request now: please do not do U-turns into the school's main entrance, immediately in front of our road patrollers, as this makes it difficult for them to see approaching traffic.

Have you checked the MoE's Parent Portal? There is a video at this link (https://www.education.govt.nz/parents-and-caregivers/schools-year-0-13/parent-portal/guide-your-childs-reporting-and-progress) about changes to your child's reporting and progress. It explains how the new New Zealand Curriculum reports work and what they show about your child’s progress.

Does your child catch a bus? GoBus are looking for GoBus rangatahi champions...

Do you catch the bus and reckon it’s a good way to get around? Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is looking for rangatahi who are keen to champion the GoBay bus network. This would mean:

Sharing information within your school and their wider community
Take part in filming for social media talking about how the bus works for you

If you’re keen to find out more about becoming a champion, get in touch at [email protected]
