Take care visiting us this Saturday afternoon (1 Aug), with traffic management in place for Southland Stags Day 💪

Partial lane closures and turn restrictions will be in place around Elles Road before and after the 5.05pm game. The road may look closed, but access to Splash Palace will remain available.

Look for the Pool Access Only signs beside the traffic marshals and let them know you’re heading to the pool. You can also access us from the north, with a marshal stationed beside Mitre 10 to guide vehicles through.

Please allow a little extra time and follow the directions of the traffic management team.

According to Water Safety New Zealand, 2026 is on track to be the deadliest year for drowning in almost 25 years.

After years of declining drowning deaths, this year’s figures are a sobering reminder that we can’t become complacent around the water. Many incidents have involved people who were alone, not wearing a lifejacket, or underestimated the conditions.

Today is World Drowning Prevention Day and this year’s theme, “Unite to Turn the Tide,” recognises that preventing drowning requires collective action. It’s not the responsibility of one person or one organisation - we all have a role to play.

Whether you’re heading out to fish, swim, paddle, or simply enjoy time around the water, take a moment to prepare, look out for those around you, and make safety part of every outing.

Together we can help turn the tide 🛟🏊‍♂️

This week we were honoured to welcome Hilary from Epilepsy New Zealand to Splash Palace. She held a training session with our lifeguards to provide epilepsy awareness and seizure first aid training.
