Check out these happy faces from last week's recorder classes as they learned, played, and worked towards their next theory goal! ⭐🎵😊

A big part of the Recorder Karate programme is developing a solid understanding of introductory music theory.

Each year, students work through the stages of earning their Theory Licence through a variety of fun, engaging games and activities! Students develop confidence and understanding while establishing connections with those around them.

Once students have gained their Theory License, they have the musical foundation needed to move on to another instrument of their choice the following year. 🎲🎶

A huge congratulations to Freya who was awarded her Master Recorder Karate Belt on the weekend!

The Master Belt is five belts above black belt! What an outstanding achievement and a wonderful example of dedication, perseverance, and practice.

The Recorder Karate programme encourages students to build their skills step by step, developing confidence, musicianship, and a strong foundation for future musical learning.

Well done on this fantastic accomplishment. ⭐👏

🎻Invercargill Symphonia in concert!🎻
Sunday 14 September at 3.00pm in the Basilica.

The programme features Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, alongside works by Rossini and Haydn. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience live orchestral music right here in Southland.

Attending concerts is a fantastic way for young musicians to develop their listening skills, discover new repertoire, and see the results of dedication and practice in action.

We are also proud to have a number of OSMC tutors involved. So come along and support Beth Duffill-Brookes (clarinet), Hanna Ott (oboe), Estelle Rance (violin), Julie Wells (clarinet), and Musical Director Wayne Perniskie.

We encourage all OSMC students and whānau to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to hear live orchestral music and to support our local musicians. 🤩
