Instrument Expo was such an awesome morning filled with so many highlights. 🎶

It was an exciting opportunity for students to see, hear, and have-a-go at all of the instruments we teach at OSMC. We can’t wait to see which instrument each student is keen to learn! 🎺🥁🎻🎹 🎸🎷🪈

A huge thank you to our amazing demonstrators and assistants! This fantastic team were enthusiastic, encouraging and inspiring, and are the reason the event was so successful. 💫

🎻 It’s official — the Dunedin Youth Chamber Music Festival 2026, under the auspices of the Dunedin Concerto Charitable Trust in association with the School of Performing Arts, University of Otago supported by the HTowers Charitable Trust, is launched!

We’re thrilled to announce a brand-new opportunity for young chamber musicians from across Aotearoa New Zealand. 🎶

Margaret Robertson MBE Brings Scottish Fiddle to New Zealand
Renowned Scottish fiddle teacher and performer Margaret Robertson MBE is bringing the traditions of Scottish and Shetland fiddle music to New Zealand this October.
With over 40 years’ teaching experience, Margaret leads the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Fiddlers and Hjaltibonhoga International Fiddle Community, and founded the Tarland Fiddle Gathering. Her contribution to Scottish music was recognised with an MBE in the 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Out of School Music Classes strives to provide opportunities to acknowledge and celebrate the commitment, achievement and contribution of students who have demonstrated dedication to their music and to OSMC, as well as the many successes they have achieved along the way.

Excellence and Service Awards are presented each year at the end-of-year concert to students who meet the applicable criteria.

🏅Music Excellence Award:
This Award recognises senior students who have demonstrated sustained commitment and achievement in their musical learning at OSMC.

🏅OSMC Service Award:
This Award recognises students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting and contributing to OSMC beyond their own learning.

👨‍🎓Each year, OSMC offers a one-off scholarship payment to help financially support a current OSMC student, or an OSMC graduate currently tutoring with us, who is heading into tertiary education the following year.

Preference is given to students planning to continue their music studies at tertiary level, although scholarships may also be awarded to students pursuing other areas of tertiary study.

We are proud to support our ākonga as they take the next step in their education. 💙
