We meet weekly during term time to plan events and activities, strategise, consult and submit to others on issues youth feel strongly about.

Come celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori with us at Quiz Night, this Friday at the Scout Hall from 4pm-6pm.
All ages welcome, there will be lots of food and prizes!
Teams should have at least 3 people, but don't worry if you don't have enough, come along and we'll find you a team!

Community Talk with Matt Brown She Is Not Your Rehab

Join us for a powerful and inspiring Community Talk with Matt Brown, co‑founder of She Is Not Your Rehab and a leading voice for healing, healthy masculinity, and violence prevention. Audiences across Aotearoa have described Matt’s kōrero as life‑changing, powerful, and deeply inspiring - this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.

Our intention is that this event is a safe space to come, listen, and learn about these important conversations. Through honest storytelling and a trauma‑informed lens, Matt invites us to rethink old narratives, take responsibility, and build healthier relationships for the generations ahead. His kōrero touches on:

Innovative approaches to preventing family violence
The role of community in collective healing
Overcoming shame and healing from trauma
Redefining masculinity
Engaging men in preventing intimate partner violence
The journey from grassroots kaupapa to global movement
A Kaikōura-specific community focus
FREE community event

The second award winner for the Adult Who Supports Youth award was Mark Paterson.
This award - sponsored by Whale Watch Kaikōura, The Pier, and Kaikōura Seaward Lions - is for an adult who mentors, supports and encourages youth to be the best version of themselves.

Young people nominated Mark for “trying his utmost to make Kaikōura a less toxic place” and because “being around [him] has made [them] a better person.” They say he’s “always making time for the kids” and “hope he continues… because he does amazing.” From New World Kaikōura, where he became a mentor and friendly face, to his youth work at Te Hā, Mark has built trust and connection. He helped launch the RodBenders youth fishing club and a mentoring programme, giving rangatahi purpose, fun, and support. Approachable, fun, and genuine - Mark changes lives simply by showing up and caring.

The final award we celebrated for the 2025 Youth Awards was Adult Who Supports Youth.
This award - sponsored by Whale Watch Kaikōura, the Pier and Kaikōura Seaward Lions - is for an adult who mentors, supports and encourages youth to be the best version of themselves.

Awarded to Kim Boyce-Campbell
Kim is a quiet powerhouse whose mahi shapes the lives of Kaikōura’s young people. As president of both the Netball Centre and Swimming Club, she creates opportunities for tamariki to thrive in sport - coaching squads year‑round, giving early mornings and late afternoons to develop skills, confidence, and teamwork. On court, she’s the reliable coach, umpire, or even player when needed. Kim leads with inclusivity and respect, ensuring all youth feel valued. Beyond sport, she guides young people into study, training, or work, inspiring belief in their potential. She is a motivator, a quiet cheerleader, and often the gentle push someone needs to take that next step.

The second award winner of the Contribution to Arts award was Genevieve Lintott!
Contribution to Arts - sponsored by IWK - goes to someone that embraces and is actively involved in any form of art.

Genevieve is an exemplary local artist, who displays huge talent, skill, and creativity. She has grown and developed her artistic abilities; her previous school artworks are now held up as examples of brilliant work in Kaikōura High School Art classes. In 2024, Genevieve created a stunning mural of a tui against a mountainous backdrop as part of a Year 13 school leavers legacy project. She has since left school, and has been commissioned by Kaikōura High School to support the creation of a new mural. Genevieve has been leading a group of students to support them in the process of creating a mural, exploring the theme of ‘Our Place’. You can see the now completed mural from the roadside near the year 7&8 area, and if you're taking a wander through High School, be sure to stop by the old Common Room building to check out the mural there too.
