We’re still buzzing after attending The New Zealand Security Association awards night last week. We’re proud to continue to invest in training our people since the beginning - 35 years ago. Awards and recognition are nice, but training is just a part of who we are.

Chaz and Adrian recently attended ASIAL Security Expo 2026, spending two days exploring the latest innovations and catching up with industry partners, manufacturers, and technology providers.

☁️ What stood out most was how quickly the security industry is moving beyond traditional CCTV and access control, with a strong focus on AI-driven analytics, deeper system integration, autonomous technologies, and cloud-based management.

🤖 Some of the highlights included autonomous drone security platforms that can respond to CCTV events in real time, AI-powered video search capabilities, emerging robotic patrol technologies, and the growing adoption of embedded and serverless video management solutions.

📹 The expo provided a great opportunity to see where the market is heading and reinforced that the future of security will be driven by automation, intelligent analytics, and seamless integration between video, access control, alarms, and other operational technologies.

💡We're looking forward to exploring some of these innovations further and assessing how they can deliver value for our customers.

🏃‍♂️ On Sunday Adrian took on the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS — the seventh Abbott World Marathon Major.
He completed the Marathon in 4:49:38 !!!
Adrian shared some pics and videos and had this to say about his efforts;
"Stoked to have ticked off my 1st World Marathon Major in Sydney. 42.2km is still a long way…! 😳 time to put the feet up…"
We totally agree! What a massive achievement. The whole team is proud of you for taking on the challenge and flying the Nelson Alarms flag in Sydney.

We’re so proud to have four of our technicians named as finalists in the 2026 The New Zealand Security Association Security Awards.
Brynn Lightfoot, Damien Hill and Dean Wratt are finalists for Electronic Security Trainee of the Year, while Blake Grainger is a finalist for Install and Service Electronic Sector (SME) Technician of the Year.

We place a big emphasis on continuous learning and development. The security industry is always evolving, and we want our team to keep building their knowledge, developing their technical skills and creating long-term careers in the industry.

Seeing four of our technicians recognised at a national level is a fantastic reflection of the hard work they put into developing their skills.

A lot of behind-the-scenes work also supports the team. A huge thank you to Rachel Robinson for coordinating our Security Qualifications Programme, block courses and exams, and to Dan King, whose work as Workplace Assessor helps our technicians continue to learn, grow and progress.

We’ll be very proud to see Brynn, Damien, Dean and Blake representing Nelson Alarms at the awards in Wellington this September.

What a great night at our recent work social event at Action Centre 🎳

There were plenty of laughs, a few questionable bowling techniques 🙈... and plenty of un-surprisingly competitive moments.
The highlight of the night was undoubtedly Vic, who smashed the company bowling record with an impressive score of 139! 🏆

The previous record had been held by Rob for so long that nobody could actually remember what it was, although it was generally believed to be somewhere in the 120's. Well, there's no debating it now, Vic has convincingly set the new benchmark.

Congratulations, Vic, and thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a fun evening!

🎥 We've been working hard on a remote North Canterbury site for one of our Nelson-based clients.

This project involves installing security access systems and camera equipment, all linked back to their head office for real-time visibility. Set up across onsite portacom buildings, staff can use the same access fobs no matter which branch they’re working at — keeping things simple and secure.

Management also has full visibility of site cameras from head office, supporting both health & safety and productivity.

Distance is never a barrier for our team — we’re always ready to travel wherever the job takes us to get the work done right.

🦒 💛Today is the national ‘Wear Yellow for Harold’ fundraiser! This fun annual event helps raise awareness and vital funds for Nelson Tasman Life Education Trust. Our team has got right into it, by wearing yellow, dressing up, and supporting Harold — raising more than $200 for the Trust.

🎥 Construction Site Theft on the Rise — Stop It Before It Starts!

Early-stage construction sites are often vulnerable — as a local housing development found out the hard way.

The site, where multiple townhouses were in the foundation phase and before our full security fit-off could be completed, had valuable materials exposed, including equipment stored onsite. While the site was fully fenced, that alone wasn’t enough to keep thieves away. It created an easy opportunity for theft and vandalism, with nothing actively monitoring the site.

Copper is often targeted, as it’s quick to turnover and sell. Thieves cut and pulled out the mains that had been run through the site, causing damage in the process. The real cost wasn’t only the material being stolen, but the time and labour required to repair the damage, supply and run new mains cable, as well as delaying the project.

The obvious challenge was there was no power available on site yet. This limited the usual options for security cameras and monitoring.

Luckily, Nelson Alarms were able to provide a solution that could be up and running quickly, without relying on mains power.

Our solar-powered, battery-backed camera system provided an immediate solution. The system doesn’t rely on mains power, can be deployed quickly, and gave the client live access to the site from their phone - along with recorded footage.

Alongside the real time surveillance, security cameras acted as a strong visual deterrent and made it clear the site was being watched. The problems stopped.

The best thing about this solar powered technology is that our modern units can hold up even through the winter months, despite reduced sunlight, while still delivering consistent coverage.
