⭐ VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH ⭐

This month we're celebrating Wolfe, whose skills and hard work helped us get the final stage of our new capuchin exhibit over the line.

As a marine engineer, Wolfe arrived at just the right time with exactly the expertise we needed. He rolled up his sleeves and got stuck in, spending countless hours installing ropes, hammocks, and climbing structures to create an enriching space for our capuchins.

His contribution has made a real difference, and we couldn't be more grateful. Thank you, Wolfe, for generously sharing your time and skills with Natureland. You're an absolute legend!

We have some incredibly exciting news to share from the Natureland grounds!

Here at Natureland, our number one priority is always our animals and their welfare. Because we channel every bit of love and resource into keeping our wild residents happy and healthy, our hardworking staff areas can sometimes take a backseat.

But as we all know, happy keepers make for happy animals! 🐾

That is why we are absolutely over the moon with an incredibly generous donation from the team at Totalspan New Zealand. They have built an amazing new outdoor shelter for our keeper staff area!

"It is so wonderful to see our team's space brightened up like this. This structure is already incredibly loved and has quickly become our favorite spot to recharge between feeds and keeper talks!" -Natureland staff ❤️

Kia ora Nelson/Whakatū community,

The news we have all been preparing for is here: the H5N1 strain of bird flu has officially been confirmed in New Zealand. Our comprehensive response plan is already in full action to protect the extraordinary wildlife in our care.

To keep our birds safe, our Kea talks are cancelled for the foreseeable future.

This is a critical moment for us. With two vital Breed for Release programmes running and three cherished kea who are part of a major national breeding programme, our mission to safeguard these special manu (birds) is more urgent than ever. We cannot do this alone—we need your help.

How You Can Help Us Right Now:

Donate: Financial contributions directly fund our increased biosecurity measures and specialised care. Donations can be made swiftly via our website.

Supply Fresh Veggies: We always welcome fresh vegetable donations to keep our residents healthy and well-fed.

Bring Enrichment & Toys: Animal enrichment items and bird-safe toys keep our birds stimulated while their environments are managed. We will sanitise and decontaminate items appropriately.

Visit and Learn: The rest of the park remains open! Your support through visiting us, booking a day out, and learning about these precious species means the absolute world to us.

How to Help Prevent the Spread in Our Community:

If you are out exploring our beautiful region, please practise good biosecurity. Clean your footwear and outdoor gear regularly. If you spot a group of three or more sick or dead wild birds, do not handle them—please report them immediately to the MPI exotic pest and disease hotline at 0800 80 99 66.

We will be navigating this step-by-step, and we will need your strength and support alongside us. Thank you immensely, Nelson/Whakatū. We will weather this together!
