Nelson Marlborough - Fire and Emergency

Nelson Marlborough - Fire and Emergency Welcome to the Nelson, Tasman & Marlborough Fire and Emergency New Zealand page.

30/07/2026

Tomorrow, between 12pm and 1pm, members of the New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union will be stopping work for one hour.

We will continue to answer 111 fire calls. Volunteer stations in the affected cities and towns will respond, as they regularly do when there are multiple emergencies.

If you are at home, do not leave cooking unattended. Make sure you have working smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway, and living area.

If there is a fire, get out, stay out, and call 111.

If you are at work, know your building evacuation plan. If there is a fire or the fire alarm sounds, exit the building, assemble at your safe meeting place and call 111.

If you are on a job site that uses spark or heat generating tools, we ask you to refrain from using these tools during this hour.

It is important to acknowledge that this strike action will not affect the parts of the country served by our volunteers.

Stay safe out there today. If the road you're on looks anything like this, please don't just plough on and hope for the best.

Driving through flood waters is dangerous and puts lives at risk – not just for you and your passengers, but for the first responders who are called to rescue you if you get stuck.

With Marlborough under a heavy rain warning, Fire and Emergency is ready to support our communities, as always.

If life or safety is at risk, always call 111 straight away.

Follow the advice from Marlborough District Council and civil defence as you prepare for possible flooding.

It’s Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu – National Volunteer Week!

We would like to take a moment to thank our hard-working volunteers who serve our community - attending callouts, training, supporting fire safety in their communities and attending community events.

In the past year, our Nelson Marlborough District Volunteer Brigades have responded to over 2,500 incidents. We want to acknowledge what they give up in order to do this. Dinners are cut short, work is left for others to pick up, and sometimes precious moments are missed.

Join us in thanking our volunteers for their dedication, and their whānau and employers, who support them to respond.

🌧️Please take care out there, and remember ...🌧️
• Always call 111 when life or safety is at risk.
• Don't drive through floodwater.
o You can’t tell how deep the water is, or how swift
o The road may have been washed away; there could be hidden obstacles
o You're putting yourself at risk, and risking the lives of those who come to your rescue
• Be mindful of weather warnings from MetService
• Follow all advice and instructions from Nelson Tasman Civil Defence and Marlborough District Council
