Although our Fire Appliance doesn't look like the one below you can rest assured that if you call an ambulance in the Wakefield and surrounding areas and we arrive, you will be looked after by one of our highly skilled St John trained Medical First Responder Volunteer Fire Fighters. We have about 12 of our team specially trained to respond to medical calls to back up St John with us being a little further out of town so you will be in great hands.

How proud are we over our very own QFF Rosie Hollands. We know and have seen how much effort she has put into not only succeeding in her climb but also raising a huge amount for Blood Cancer NZ. What an inspiration to all of us. Well done Rosie!!!

Happy International Fire Fighters Day!

Huge thanks to our teams and the families behind them for all they do, the time put in to train, to call out, the missed meals, the missed family time, the sleepless nights and everything else that goes into it.

Absolute legends!! 🚒 🔥

If you have a fire hydrant outside your house and it looks like this, it will delay us in how quick we can get water into the hot stuff!

If you can adopt the hydrant and keep it clear and accessible for us and your surrounding neighbors that would be greatly appreciated.

If on the other hand you have one that looks like the below and you are not in a position to be able to clear it you can contact us on Facebook Messenger and we will send someone to sort it as soon as possible.

Thanks Wakefield for your continued support! We couldn't do it without you!

Bans and restrictions on outdoor fires in much of the Nelson-Tasman area come into force tomorrow morning (Monday 16 March) due to the escalating fire risk. Recent rain has not had a significant impact on the underlying risk, so please don’t get complacent about the fire risk.

Fires would start and spread very easily and will be more challenging for our firefighters to contain and put out in these conditions.

The changes are:
🔥 A Prohibited Fire Season in the Coastal, Waimea and Lake Rotoiti fire zones, where all outdoor fires will be completely banned
🔥 A Restricted Fire Season in the Murchison zone, where outdoor fires will require a permit.

If you see signs of smoke, please call 111 straight away.

You can easily see whether their location is covered by the total ban or the restricted fire season by going to www.checkitsalright.nz

🔥 Change of fire seasons in the Nelson Tasman region 🔥

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is enforcing a total fire ban for the St Arnaud zone, which took effect at 8am on Wednesday 4 March, until further notice.

During a prohibited fire season, no fires are allowed in the open and all fire permits are suspended.

The St Arnaud zone incorporates the urban settlement of St Arnaud and all public conservation land within the zone including Buller Campsite, Jetty Campsite, and the Teetotal Freedom Campsites located to the west of St Arnaud.

Announcing the fire season changes, District Manager Grant Haywood says no further permits will be issued until conditions ease across the area.

"Fires will start and spread very easily and will be more challenging for our firefighters to contain and put out in these conditions," he says.

"If anyone sees signs of smoke, please call 111 immediately."

Due to changes in the fire weather conditions, the Lake Rotoiti zone also entered a restricted fire season at 8am on Wednesday 4 March until further notice.

A restricted fire season means a permit is required to light an open-air fire.

The Lake Rotoiti zone runs from Kikiwa in the north, Rainbow Road to the east, Kawatiri to the west, and incorporates all of the Nelson Lakes National Park.

"Having a restricted fire season gives us greater control of who can burn and when, and we can provide direct fire safety advice to those completing burns," Grant Haywood says.

All fires in the open air now required an authorised fire permit, these can be obtained by applying online at www.checkitsalright.nz.

"We are asking the public to take extra care during these conditions.

"Go to www.checkitsalright.nz for full details of the fire season status and what activities are restricted or banned."

Our brigade sent a brave band of volunteers into battle today against the Appleby Brigade in a fiercely contested Ambrose golf showdown at Redstone Golf Park. The weather? Glorious. The course? Perfect. The team? Quietly confident and ready.

Appleby arrived looking distractingly sharp in their admittedly very fine outfits — we suspect at least three shots were lost purely to admiring their shirt coordination. Wakefield came out strong and gave it a proper go, clinging on with grit, determination, and the occasional optimistic score card.

Alas, as so often happens, golf won the day. We even attempted some “creative tactics,” one of which may or may not have resulted in a golf ball introducing itself to the leg of an Appleby player. Purely accidental, of course. Mostly.

In the end, our worthy challengers claimed a convincing victory. We congratulate them graciously… while quietly beginning our training regime.

They’ve generously promised not to hold it against us for more than a year, when we plan to meet them again on the battlefield. And next time, we’ll be ready. Probably.

Are you planning a burn on your property? Let us know first! 🔥

Whether you are in an open season or you have a fire permit, letting us know when you plan to burn can reduce unnecessary call outs for our crews.

By using this simple online tool and notifying us of your burn:
âś… Our 111 Dispatchers know there is a planned burn in the area.
âś… Calls from the public reporting this fire can be cross-checked with what we know is happening in the area.
âś…Our teams can check in with the land owner to make sure their burn is still safe and under control.
âś… It reduces unnecessary call outs for our crews keeping them available for emergencies instead of turning up at your fire.

So before you light your fire, remember to let us know first at https://www.firepermit.nz/fenz/Default.aspx or for those without internet access call 0800 336 922 (0800 FENZ CALL)
