Today we celebrate International Women’s Day and recognise the women who make our brigade and community stronger.

Today we also acknowledge the wives, partners, mothers, daughters, family members, who stand behind our firefighters. The ones who understand when a call-out interrupts dinner, a family event, or a night’s sleep. Your support, patience, and encouragement make volunteering possible.

Today marks a special milestone for the Stoke Volunteer Fire Brigade. Today, 79 years ago the Brigade was officially formed. This started the Brigade on the journey to where we are today, with an average of 280 calls a year.
Thank you to everyone who has previously served and to those that are currently serving in the Stoke Volunteer Fire Brigade.

⚠️Flooding update 12.20pm⚠️
Please don’t drive through floodwaters! Our firefighters and the Swift Water Rescue Team have already carried out multiple rescues of motorists stranded in floodwater today.
It’s impossible to judge the depth of the water so when motorists become stranded they’re in danger of drowning.
Here’s a general update on our activities across the Top of the South:
• Rescuing people trapped in floodwaters
• Helping people evacuate
• Pumping water from flooded homes
• Supporting Civil Defence in both Marlborough and Nelson-Tasman. We have activated our Local Coordination Centre in Nelson.
Please follow Marlborough District Council and Nelson Tasman Civil Defence for local information about the emergency response in your area and any instructions and warnings.

It’s Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu – National Volunteer Week!

Here’s to our crew of more than 11,800 volunteers serving at almost 600 stations across Aotearoa New Zealand 🙌

Our volunteers respond 24/7, 365 days of the year. We want to acknowledge what they give up to do this. Dinners are cut short; work is left for others to pick up and sometimes precious moments are missed.

Join us in thanking our volunteers for their dedication, and their whānau and employers, who support them to respond. ❤

Head down to Countdown/Woolworths Stoke support the crew taking on the Fire Fighter Sky Tower Challenge this year, on Saturday 24th May!

The challenge involves racing up the Auckland SkyTower in full firefighting gear with fellow fire fighters from around the country.
That’s 25kgs of gear and 1,103 steps👩🏼‍🚒

The challenge takes place each year to raise funds and awareness for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC).
Every day 8 children and adults in New Zealand are diagnose with a blood cancer like Leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. LBC is the national charity dedicated to supporting patients and their families, this support can last months or years. LBC receives very little government funding, and so this event is an important opportunity to raise funds and support.

If you would like to support the charity via donation please find our team page link below ➡️ https://firefighterschallenge.org.nz/t/2025-stoke-volunteer-fire-brigade

Alternatively we have some fundraiser events below. Get amongst it and support our team doing the hard mahi to raise funds for LBC👇
