Through Whakatu Te Korowai Manaakitanga Trust's Māra Kai programme, whānau across Whakatū have been building confidence, connection, and food security, one garden bed at a time.

With support from generous donors of our Foundation, the programme ran seasonal gardening groups, working bees, and winter wānanga, helping whānau learn seasonal planting, growing from seed, preserving kai, and low cost gardening. One facilitator even helped a whānau turn an old paddling pool into a thriving garden bed.

As one participant put it, "It was that good that I offered to volunteer."

Grounded in manaakitanga and connection to Papatūānuku, Māra Kai is helping whānau across the rohe grow skills, confidence, and community.
