🥈 SECOND IN NEW ZEALAND! 🥈

What an epic achievement from our Nayland Adventure Racing Team, finishing 2nd in the Mixed Senior Championship category at the NZ Adventure Racing Championships in Twizel!

A massive congratulations to Micah Dunn, Keshia Linyard, Jamie Harding and Owen Curran on an incredible race.

These four took on a gruelling 12 hours of running, mountain biking and kayaking - definitely not for the faint-hearted! 🚴‍♀️🏃‍♂️🛶

And to make the result even more impressive, they crossed the line second behind a current World Champion!

All those hours of training, preparation and hard work have certainly paid off, and we couldn't be more proud of the way you represented Nayland.

What an incredible way for our Year 13 athletes to sign off their school sporting careers - with a National podium finish!

Congratulations team! what an adventure!!!

A fantastic weekend of orienteering for Nayland Year 13 student Micah Dunn! 👏

Last weekend South Island Secondary School Orienteering Championships brought together students from across the South Island for two days of competition through park and forest courses in Christchurch

Micah put together an excellent performance in the Year 12/13 Competitive Grade, finishing:

🥈 2nd – Sprint / Park Event
🥉 3rd – Forest Event

A brilliant result against strong secondary school competition and another great example of our Nayland students getting out there, challenging themselves and representing our school and region with pride.

📸 STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Kahlan McFedries! Photographer on the Rise

A few months ago, Kahlan McFedries walked into the Sports Office with a simple question…

“When are all the upcoming sports games?”

Kahlan, a Year 11 student with a growing passion for photography, wanted to give sports photography a go - and we were more than happy to help him find opportunities to practise.

Fast forward a few months and you’ll now find Kahlan on the sidelines of Nayland sporting events, camera in hand, capturing our athletes in action. 📸

With the support of his teachers and family, Kahlan has been getting himself along to games whenever he can, putting in the hours and, most importantly, getting plenty of practice.

Because how do you get better at something without actually doing it?

What started with playing around with his mum’s old travel camera has grown into something much bigger. Kahlan has since saved up for his own professional camera and has been building a portfolio through both school sport and go-karting photography.

Kahlan hopes to pursue photography when he leaves school, with plenty of goals for the future - including upgrading his equipment and adding a telephoto lens to help him take his field-sport photography to the next level.

We’re pretty proud that he chose to start that journey right here at Nayland.

So if you see Kahlan on the sidelines, give him a wave - he might just be capturing your next big sporting moment!

Tournament Week Done & Dusted! 🏆🎉

What an incredible week of sport! A massive thank you to all our coaches, managers, team camp parents, and officials! Tournament week simply wouldn't be possible without your tireless support and dedication.

Here is how our Nayland teams ended up!

🤩Cycling (SISS Southern Tour - Blenheim): Our cyclists put in outstanding performances down in Blenheim! From fantastic podium finishes in the U16 and U20 categories to riders taking on their very first road tour in U17, it was an awesome showcase of determination and skill against tough competition. 🚴‍♀️

🤩Netball (SISS Championships - Nelson): Our Senior A team put in a stellar performance on home soil, securing a top-16 finish! This huge effort retains our spot in the A Grade competition for 2027. A fantastic end to a great season! 🏐

🤩Basketball (Junior SISS Championships):
🏆 Junior A Girls: An unstoppable week! The girls went undefeated all tournament to take out the B Grade Championship Title!
Junior A Boys: Battled hard in a tough A Grade division, finishing 14th overall with incredible determination. 🏀

🤩 Hockey (Coaches Cup - Greymouth): Our 1st XI had a massive week on the Coast, building strong team bonds and playing fantastic hockey to finish 7th overall! 🏒

🤩 Football (Jim Wishart Tournament - Nelson): Our 1st XI showed immense grit and togetherness in a tough pool, putting together great performances to finish 11th place! ⚽

🤩Girls Rugby 10s: A fantastic building experience! Despite a few tough injury setbacks on Day 1, the girls dug deep, formed unbreakable bonds, and gained invaluable experience on the field. 🏉
So many memorable highlights and proud moments to celebrate.

Congratulations to every athlete who represented our school! 🌟

Well done to student Ethan Lindsay on being apart of the Nelson Men’s Netball team 🎉
A great win over Marlborough last weekend! All the best for your next competition Ethan!

🏆 NELSON 46 | BLENHEIM 43 🏆

What. A. Game. 💙

Our inaugural Men’s Netball exhibition match is officially in the books - and Nelson came away with the win, 46 - 43, after an incredible contest that went right down to the wire!

But this one was about far more than the final score.

A massive thank you to Marlborough Netball Centre for creating the opportunity, backing Men’s Netball and helping make this game happen. To the Blenheim Mixed Team - thank you for an awesome game, played in exactly the spirit this event was intended.

A huge thank you also to Myron Elkington & Kate Davies for travelling over and doing an outstanding job on the whistles, and to Sarah Rankin for taking the reins and coaching our Nelson side.

And finally, to our players, friends and supporters who made the trip across the hill - thank you! Seeing the support on the sideline made a pretty special occasion even better. 🙌

The feedback after the game was incredible, everyone loved it, and if this was anything to go by… Men’s Netball in our region has plenty more to come. 👀

🏆 SISS CHAMPIONS! 🏆

What a way to finish! 🏀

Our Junior A Basketball Girls have taken out the B Grade title at the SISS Junior Basketball Championships! 🥇

A huge congratulations to the girls - your hard work, commitment and determination all season have paid off. What an awesome achievement!

A massive thank you to Jodie, Abbe and Michelle for the time, energy and dedication you’ve put into supporting these girls and making the trip such a success. It doesn’t happen without the mahi behind the scenes!

🏆 TOURNAMENT WEEK | SPORTING UPDATE 🏆

Tournament Week is well underway, and our Nayland athletes are out there representing the school across the South Island!

🏀 BASKETBALL | SISS JUNIOR TOURNAMENT – CHRISTCHURCH
Our Junior A Girls and Boys are battling it out in Christchurch!

The Girls are competing in B Grade and are charging through their campaign undefeated, putting together some fantastic performances so far! Finals bound tomorrow 🎉🎉

Our Boys are competing in A Grade and have found themselves in a tough mix and are digging deep. The wins haven’t come their way just yet, but tomorrow brings another opportunity to finish strong and leave it all on the court!

⚽ FOOTBALL | JIM WISHART SI BOYS COMP – NELSON
Our First XI have made a strong start on home soil with a 1–0 win over Rangiora and a 2–2 draw against Golden Bay.

A solid opening to the tournament - plenty more football to come!

🏐 NETBALL | SISS – NELSON
The Senior A Girls have hit the ground running with two from two wins, cementing their spot in the Top 16!

A fantastic start to their SISS campaign - keep it rolling, girls!

🏑 HOCKEY | SISS BOYS COACHES CUP – GREYMOUTH
Game one is in the books! It wasn’t the result our boys were after, but what a spectacular game to watch and plenty of positive plays.

There’s plenty more hockey ahead in Greymouth, and we know this team will keep battling, competing and backing each other all the way.

Tournament Week is about competing, representing, supporting each other and making memories along the way.

⚽️GAME TIME IN NELSON! ⚽️

Tournament Week is in full swing, and our Nayland First XI Boys Football team are ready to get stuck into the Jim Wishart Boys South Island Event, right here in Nelson!

These boys have been putting in the work, and now it’s time to step onto the pitch and show what they can do.

And if we’ve learnt anything from the last event hosted at Nayland… these boys know how to put on a show when there’s a big crowd behind them!

So, if you’re around, get down to the sidelines, bring your voices and get behind the boys! Your support can make a huge difference.

🚴‍♀️SOUTHERN TOUR SUCCESS! 🚴‍♀️

What a weekend for our Nayland cyclists at the Southern Tour in Blenheim!

Our girls took on some tough competition and put in some fantastic performances across the weekend. A few standout results:

A huge well done also to Nia Linyard and Mathilda Altendorf, who both took on their first road cycling tour in the U17 category. What an awesome experience and a great opportunity to test themselves against some strong competition!
