We would like to acknowledge the recent passing of Thelma Beer on May 29. Thelma was very passionate about her community and the rights of older people. Some of you may remember Thelma from 2018 when she protested against the closure of the Oamaru Hospital kitchen. Thelma was an amazing artist and treasured her sanctuary that was her home at Maheno. Rest in love Thelma 💜

🎉 Congratulations, Hanny! 🎉

We would like to congratulate everyone recognised in this morning’s King’s Birthday Honours list.

We'd like to especially mention our colleague, Hanny Naus, who has been awarded the King's Service Medal for her outstanding service and advocacy for older people and rainbow communities. Through her work, Hanny has helped foster more inclusive and supportive services across Aotearoa New Zealand.

As our Professional Educator – Elder Abuse and Neglect Prevention, Hanny has been an important part of Age Concern New Zealand since 2013. She brings deep knowledge, expertise, and unwavering dedication to advocating for older people, particularly in the area of elder abuse prevention.

Hanny is also actively involved in a wide range of organisations and community groups, ensuring the voices of older people are heard and that our communities remain safe, inclusive, and supportive for all.

Working with Hanny is such an honour. She has the biggest heart, care and passion and this translates in the mahi she does. How lucky are we to be working alongside you? Warmest congratulations to you, Hanny! 🌷Thank you for all you do!
