Today marks 50 strikes.

Its not a celebration, its more of a signal of solidarity. We are standing up for each other, for our communities and for a better fire service.

As a proud member of this organization, it was nothing short of embarrassing watching this yesterday. Today, many are asking the same question.... "What am I getting from MY fire levy?"

MPs demand answers from Fire and Emergency leaders over spending and repeatedly pushed CE Kerry Gregory on what had gone wrong since FENZ was set up nine years ago.

Strike 46!

This week our CE thought it wise to triumph a pay rise for all members EXCEPT our firefighters. 🤔🤔🤔

How did we respond? Well sometimes getting out in the garden and taking it out on the weeds is the best medicine. So at lunchtime today, we all marched down to the Te Aitarakihi Whānau Māra Kai and put our energy into helping out.

Sunshine, compost and good vibes.

We strike to bring attention to these failings.

More than $90k to put together information that Deputy National Commander Megan Stiffler and DCE Executive Asset and Programme Delivery Sarah Sinclair (who were responsible for the procurement and rollout of “new” 8-year-old appliances), the fleet manager, DCE Finance Darryl Purdy, and of course, National Commander/CE Kerry Gregory should have had at their fingertips!

It was a pleasure to host Jevon!

🚒 You might remember a story from a few months ago about Jevon, who is supported by IDEA Services in Canterbury. Jevon carefully developed a safe evacuation plan for his home in case of an emergency. As part of the project, he was supported to install solar lights to illuminate the path to his designated safe place, the front gate, and to design and paint it himself.

Jevon's next goal was to visit the Timaru Fire Station, and recently that dream became a reality for both Jevon (and Pikachu!). He thoroughly enjoyed being shown around the station and was especially excited to climb into a fire truck and learn about the equipment firefighters use in different situations. To top it all off, he was presented with a certificate in recognition of his commitment to fire safety and safe evacuation.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate all of Jevon's hard work. Meeting the firefighters and visiting the station helped mark an important achievement in his journey. We are very grateful to the Timaru Fire Brigade team for their support and for helping make this such a positive and memorable experience for Jevon.

Ka mau te wehi, Jevon! 👏🔥

Manawatia a Matariki!

This morning the Washdyke fire station hosted a Matariki celebration for the Timaru Fire brigade and their whānau, support staff, management and members of Hato Hone and Police.

This was the first time honouring Matariki as a brigade and was a result of some wonderful members of our brigade. We want to wish everyone a happy and safe weekend, and we hope this year will bring great abundance for all.

Strike number 44!

The team was invited down to the Te Aitarakihi Whānau Māra Kai to help out with some heavy lifting and garden bed digging. It was really awesome to see the selection of kai grown for so many members of our community. We will be heading back down next week to finish digging in the sleepers and do more weeding.

If you would like to lend a green thumb or two in the future, or you're interested to find out more head to https://teaitarakihi.co.nz/mara-kai/ for more information 😃
