Disclaimer: This will take 12 minutes of your time but it is worth a watch. Big thank you to the Auckland City 207 Crew and Ganesh Raj for highlighting some of the major issues plaguing us today.

We had a similar situation here in Timaru just last week where we were relying on a relief truck that is well over 30 years old. Its time to sort this out.

ECO (Entry Control Officer) β€” a crucial role on the fireground responsible for accounting for firefighters operating in Breathing Apparatus.

Using the ECO board, we calculate:
Time due out
Relief team assembly times
Relief team due-in times
Along with recording other critical information including:
BA teams
Tasks being carried out
Crew locations
What Hose they are using
Additional operational safety information.

The ECO plays a key role in maintaining firefighter safety, accountability, and situational awareness throughout an incident.

πŸš’ A massive thank you to the LSS group from Roncalli College for visiting our Timaru Station today!

It was a pleasure showing the group around our station, talking through some of the equipment we use and giving an insight into the wide range of incidents we respond to across South Canterbury.

The group also got to see just how quickly crews respond when our Timaru crew were called to an incident during the visit!

We always enjoy opening our doors to the community and sharing a bit about what we do. Whether it’s schools, community groups, or anyone simply curious about the station, feel free to give us a call or knock on the door and we’ll do our best to welcome you in.

Thanks again for coming out and spending part of your day with us πŸ‘
