Rata Park Rest Home We provide a 5-bedroom Young Persons Unit alongside our 20-bed care wing

We are a 25 bed Care Home situated 3kms from the Winton township providing a wonderful rural environment, we care for young adults from the age of 10 years old to our centenarians. Set on 4 acres and surrounded by farmland, we are a 20 bed resthome situated 3kms from the Winton township providing a wonderful rural environment with a dedicated team of staff. We offer long and short term care for young and old as well as respected end of life palliative care. Our activities and outings are many and varied and we strive to
accommodate individual resident’s interests and preferences as much as possible. Owners Darren and Vicky, both registered nurses, live on site with their children, providing a real family atmosphere they would love to share with you.

🥚🐣 We are EGGspecting! 🐣🥚

There’s a little bit of excitement brewing at Rata Park… today we welcomed 12 very special eggs into our brand-new incubator!

Over the next three weeks, our residents will be watching, waiting, candling and (probably not very patiently!) hoping to see our little Rata family begin to grow ❤️

If all goes to plan, we should be hearing the tiniest little cheeps around 13 October! 🐥

For now, the incubator is on, the countdown has begun, and we’re keeping everything crossed for our 12 little eggs.

I came across this Rata Park ad from 2012, and what struck me most was just how much of what Darren talks about is still true today.

Family values, knowing our residents properly, having a laugh and giving each other a hard time 😂 — it’s all still such a big part of Rata.

And something that definitely hasn’t changed is the passion Darren and Vicky have for Rata and for the people who live here. You can hear it in Darren talking about Rata 14 years ago, and anyone who knows them or Rata today knows that passion is still very much there 😌

Obviously a lot has changed since 2012. There have been many different residents and staff through our doors and a whole lot of memories made along the way. But it’s pretty cool to look back at something like this and realise that the things that really matter haven’t changed.

Including, apparently, everyone giving Darren a hard time. We’ve kept that tradition going particularly well 😂 🩵

Fourteen years later, family values are still what Rata is all about 💛

🌿 Ake, Ake, Ake – A Forever Language 🌿

To celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, our residents worked together to create this colourful Kōrero Māori display. Each speech bubble features a kupu Māori and its meaning, beautifully decorated by our residents.

He kupu, he hononga, he whānau.
Words create connection and family.

A beautiful reminder that every word learned, spoken and shared helps keep te reo Māori thriving for generations to come. ❤️

🎳 What a great day out! ❤️

Two car loads and nine residents headed into Invercargill today for lunch followed by a very competitive game of ten-pin bowling!

Lots of laughs, plenty of questionable technique 😂 and somehow Karen managed to take out the win on her very first time bowling! 🏆🎳

A brilliant day with a brilliant bunch ❤️

No residents or staff were injured during this activity - but there was plenty of laughter, a little hesitation, some questionable aim, and a whole lot of trust between our residents and staff. 💚

Activities don’t always need to be complicated — sometimes all you need is a pool noodle, a blindfold and a staff member willing to put their faith in the wrong people. 😂

Safe to say, our residents thoroughly enjoyed being on this side of the activity for once!
