One of the exciting changes this term has been our whole-school inquiry learning each afternoon. Bringing our younger and older students together has been fantastic! Not only are they learning about our inquiry topic, but they're also developing valuable life skills such as working as a team, sharing ideas, helping one another, and learning alongside students of different ages.

Today's classroom? The old sandpit with Miss Poole!

Armed with water, buckets, tools, and plenty of curiosity, our students investigated how water can shape and change the landscape. There were rivers, floods... and yes, a whole lot of fun!

It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back to school and see so many smiling faces around the place. We've also been lucky with some beautiful winter sunshine, giving the students the perfect opportunity to get outside, enjoy some fresh air, and spend time skipping and playing together. It's been a fantastic start to the term!

Our Hillside whānau are just awesome!

We want to give a huge thank you to Carlos, who wanted to create something special for our students and staff as a Hillside memory. He certainly did that, and took it to the next level!

Carlos kindly made every student and staff member their own personalised keyring, coaster, and a beautiful wee keepsake design. The care, thought, and effort that went into each item is truly incredible.

I am certain there would have been many long hours behind the scenes to create these, and we are so grateful for the time, generosity, and kindness shown.

These keepsakes will be treasured reminders of our special Hillside community for years to come.

Thank you Carlos, your thoughtfulness means so much to us all!

The holidays have come to an end, and we can't wait to welcome everyone back to Hillside tomorrow! We are looking forward to seeing all of our students' smiling faces and hearing about the adventures they've had over the break.

We finished Term 2 with a wonderful celebration at our whole-school assembly, recognising the incredible achievements of our students. From book awards to celebrating personal successes, it was a fantastic way to acknowledge the hard work and growth shown throughout the term. We also took the opportunity to farewell some special members of our Hillside whānau and thank them for the positive impact they've had on our school community.

Now it's time for a fresh term filled with new learning, exciting opportunities, and plenty of memorable moments. We also have some new faces joining our team this term, and we look forward to introducing them to our Hillside community.

Welcome back, Hillside Whānau! Let's make Term 3 a great one.

It's been all go around the school grounds over the past couple of days!

As part of a winter tidy-up, we've been clearing away some of the overgrown, woody shrubs that had become difficult to maintain and were blocking much of our natural light. While things might look a little bare for now, it's all part of a bigger plan to create a brighter, more welcoming environment for our students and community.

These areas will soon be replanted with easy-care greenery, and perhaps even a splash of colour, to brighten the space while still letting in plenty of our beautiful natural light.

A huge thank you to Jody, who has generously volunteered a couple of days to help transform our gardens. We really appreciate your time, hard work, and support of our school.

We can't wait to see these spaces come to life over the coming months!

Today we said goodbye to our old Alder tree, which was badly damaged in last October's storms.

A huge thank you to the amazing team at Southern Tree Craft for their fantastic work and for leaving us a wonderful little seat made from part of the tree for the children to discover. A tremendous thank you also to Hughes Contracting for their much-needed help at the end of the day.

We're so lucky to be part of such a supportive community. We really appreciate our local businesses getting behind our school and helping us out.
