GRIT IN ACTION: Leading with Courage, Character and Compassion
Leadership training gave our student leaders the opportunity to step away from their usual responsibilities and focus on what it truly means to lead. Beyond the title, we were reminded that leadership begins with knowing yourself, understanding others, and being willing to take responsibility.
Being a leader does not always mean having the loudest voice or being the one in front. Sometimes, leadership is found in listening, understanding, encouraging others, and staying committed even when things do not go as planned. As Mrs. Triceayn Marie De Guzman-Prestousta said, we must have courage. Courage is not the absence of difficulty; it is choosing a responsible, next smart step despite difficulty. We must not be fueled by unfamiliarity towards ourselves, but instead, we must understand and process. Despite that, we should not be defined by what we feel. โYou are not your emotions,โ Ms. Justine S. Latawan said. To be kind is a choice and an action. By choosing to act kindly, we embody Christ and nurture compassion.
The day also reminded us that every leader faces challengesโchallenges that are part of the journey. As we return to our roles, may we bring these lessons with us, not just in our responsibilities, but as individuals who can inspire, serve, and make a difference through our everyday actions. Leadership starts with one decision, one action, and people willing to make a difference. Lastly, as Mr. Alejandro P. Pablico said, โLeadership is not tested when everything is easyโleadership is revealed when things become difficult.โ
