The Department of Health - Cordillera Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD-CAR) acknowledges the public concern over vaccination of children in the region. The regional office recognizes the challenges felt by families across CAR, and the Department is actively taking steps to resolve them.
Routine immunization vaccines under the National Immunization Program (NIP) are promptly allocated and distributed to provinces and health facilities. Stock-outs happen due to supply constraints. A study by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) identified supply chain and procurement challenges as the primary cause of recurring vaccine stockouts. The availability of vaccines at public health facilities is affected by enduring structural factors.
To help address this, the Department is exerting all efforts to expedite the vaccine procurement process. In addition, Ligtas Tigdas (Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity) is scheduled from August 10 to 28, 2026 across the Cordillera, targeting unvaccinated and under-immunized children aged 6 to 59 months. Participating children will receive both the measles-rubella (MR) vaccine and Vitamin A supplementation. Beyond this activity, vaccines including BCG, HEPB, pentavalent, oral polio, IPV, HPV and MMR, remain free at all public health facilities, and catch-up immunization is available for children who have missed earlier doses.
Moreover, like the rest of the country, DOH-CHD-CAR implements PuroKalusugan, a program that deploys additional health workers to the barangay and purok levels to bring immunization and other health services directly to disadvantaged and geographically dispersed populations.
DOH-CHD-CAR encourages all parents and caregivers to consult their nearest local health centers on the current vaccine schedule and supply status. Please report extended vaccine unavailability at their local health centers through the regional office's public assistance line (074-442-8098).
The Department reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that every child in the Cordillera has access to life-saving immunization services. Further, the DOH thanks the health workers at the local government units for their constant dedication and patience as partners in implementing the NIP, and is likewise grateful for the communityโs continued vigilance in holding the government accountable for the health of its children.
