TROPICAL STORM MAYMAY IS ABOUT TO MAKE LANDFALL OVER THE NORTHERN PORTION OF ILOCOS SUR.
Location of Center (1:00 AM):
The center of Tropical Storm MAYMAY was estimated based on all available data over the coastal waters of Magsingal, Ilocos Sur (17.7ยฐN, 120.3ยฐE).
Intensity:
Maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 105 km/h, and central pressure of 996 hPa.
Present Movement:
Eastward at 10 km/h
Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds:
Strong to gale-force winds extend outwards up to 220 km from the center

Severe Winds
The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.
โข Minor to moderate impacts from gale-force winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 2.
โข Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
The Southwest Monsoon and the periphery of MAYMAY will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):
โข Today until Saturday (06 to 08 August): Most of the country.

24-Hour Sea Condition Outlook
Up to very rough seas over the following coastal waters:
โข Up to 5.0 m: The seaboards of Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan; the western seaboard of Ilocos Norte.
โข Up to 4.5 m: The northern seaboard of Batanes.
โข Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.
Up to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
โข Up to 4.0 m: The remaining seaboards of Batanes; the seaboards of Babuyan Islands; the northeastern seaboard of mainland Cagayan.
โข Up to 3.0 m: The remaining seaboards of Ilocos Norte and mainland Cagayan; the eastern seaboards of Isabela, northeastern Aurora, and Davao Oriental; the northern seaboards of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Northern Samar; the northern and eastern seaboards of Catanduanes; the western seaboards of Zambales, Bataan, and northwestern Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Islands.
โข Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced of operating ill-equipped vessels.
Up to moderate seas over the following coastal waters:
โข Up to 2.5 m: The remaining seaboards of Aurora and Occidental Mindoro; the northern and eastern seaboards of Polillo Islands; the eastern seaboards of Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Sur; the western seaboards of Batangas; the northern and western seaboards of northern Palawan including Calamian Islands; the seaboards of Kalayaan Islands.
โข Up to 2.0 m: The seaboards of Romblon, Masbate, Cagayancillo Islands, Caluya Islands, Camiguin, and Davao Occidental; the southern seaboards of Oriental Mindoro, Quezon, Marinduque, Cuyo Islands, Iloilo, Guimaras, Bohol, Southern Leyte, and Davao Oriental; the western seaboards Antique, mainland Palawan, Negros Occidental, Biliran, northwestern Leyte, and Surigao del Norte; the remaining seaboards of Batangas, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon; the northern seaboard of Cebu.
โข Mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.
Other coastal waters have forecast wave heights of less than 2.0 m.
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
โข It must be emphasized that heavy rainfall and severe winds may still be experienced in localities outside the landfall point and the forecast confidence cone. Refer to โOther Hazards affecting Land Areasโ for more details. Furthermore, the track may still shift within the limit of the forecast confidence cone.
โข MAYMAY will move generally eastward and may make landfall in the vicinity of the northern portion of Ilocos Sur this morning. Afterwards, it will traverse the mountainous terrain of Northern and Central Luzon before emerging over the eastern coastal waters of Isabela or Cagayan.
โข MAYMAY is forecast to remain as a tropical storm until it makes landfall in the vicinity of Ilocos Sur. Then, as it moves further inland, MAYMAY will weaken into a tropical depression likely this morning and may be downgraded into a low pressure area this afternoon or evening. However, due to interaction with the rugged terrain, an earlier weakening is possible.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
