The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Regional Office VIII conducted the Bayanihan Para sa Balikbayang Manggagawa (BBM) – National Reintegration Network (NRN) Regional Fair in Talibon, Bohol, today, July 8, 2026.

In partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Talibon, Bohol, through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), the event officially opened today, bringing together Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families, National Reintegration Network (NRN) partners, Sa 'Pinas Ikaw ang Ma'am at Sir (SPIMS) beneficiaries, and Buy Lokal, By OFWs (BLBO) entrepreneurs. Participants took part in the Financial Awareness Seminar, Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons (AIRTIP) Campaign, Kumustahan, and the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Department of Migrant Workers and the Local Government Unit of Talibon, Bohol.

The Department continues to strengthen its partnerships with various government and non-government agencies to promote sustainable reintegration and improve support services for returning OFWs and their families.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | The Department of Migrant Workers Region 10 (DMW-10) conducted a coordination meeting with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region on July 7 at the CHED Regional Office 10, to explore potential areas of collaboration particularly on scholarship programs and educational assistance that qualified Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families may access, as well as to discuss the proposed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) under the National Reintegration Network (NRN).

The discussion was participated in by CHED Region 10 OIC Regional Director Dr. Leo D. Camposano, OIC Chief Education Program Specialist Daryl Glenn Pamplona, Education Supervisor II Sarah Jane Medez, and Chief Welfare Reintegration Service Division Marry Gil Damasing-Palisbo.
The activity allowed both agencies to identify collaborative initiatives and advance the proposed partnership in support of sustainable reintegration services for OFWs and their families.

After working for eight years as a dialysis nurse in Saudi Arabia, Rubylyzle Alferez Alrayes from Zamboanga City returned home during the COVID-19 pandemic to pursue her dream of starting a mushroom farm. In 2021, she established RuRu Mushrooms using her savings.

Combining her healthcare background with her passion for sustainable farming, she built a thriving agribusiness producing gourmet mushroom chips and other mushroom-based products. With support from the Western Mindanao State University–Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubator (WMSU-ATBI), RuRu Mushrooms grew significantly and earned Philippine Good Agricultural Practices (PhilGAP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Halal certifications—becoming Zamboanga City’s first certified mushroom farm. Today, her business supplies local markets and is beginning to meet international demand.

Rubylyzle’s journey proves how an OFW’s dedication and vision can grow into a successful agri-enterprise.

𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗧 𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗦

After years of working aboard international vessels, Gary M. Esguerra, a licensed marine engineer from Bataan, found a new calling back home as the Acting Dean of Academics at MAAP. Managing ship machinery and mentoring cadets on the high seas sparked his deep passion for training future seafarers, but it also opened his eyes to the heavy toll of marine pollution. Inspired to protect the very oceans he traveled, he created SeaCycle Lite—an innovative business that produces maritime uniforms and accessories made entirely from recycled plastic bottles.

Through the LIKHAng Marino Business Plan Competition, Gary envisions growing SeaCycle Lite into a leading provider of sustainable uniforms. His goal is to blend eco-friendly innovation with practical design to make sustainability a standard in shipping and maritime schools. By scaling this venture, he aims to create local jobs, support coastal communities through plastic collection, and collaborate with partners like the DOST-PTRI to advance local RPET fabric production.

Drawing strength from his maritime journey, Gary now inspires fellow OFWs and aspiring entrepreneurs to see the potential of returning home. For him, the ultimate goal is to turn seafaring experiences into powerful opportunities that uplift people and create sustainable livelihoods.

The TWG Community Retirement and Reintegration Community, an investment initiative for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), has evolved into the soon-to-be-registered Convivencia Housing Cooperative.

𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒂 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝑺𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒔 "𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒚."

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is one of the initiative's partners through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), Atikha, Soro-soro Ibaba Development Cooperative (SIDC), and the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA).

𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗛𝗔 𝗚𝗟𝗢𝗕𝗔𝗟 𝗕𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗼 𝗗. 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗻𝗴𝗶, from Baliuag City, Bulacan, has dedicated nine years to working in Riyadh as an SAP Data Entry staff at Al Watania Poultry Co. His journey has been shaped by dedication and a deep commitment to his family, who have been his constant source of strength, inspiring him to keep going despite the hardships and challenges of working far from home. He eagerly anticipates returning home to embrace the simple joys he has long missed—home-cooked meals, laughter, and precious moments with his loved ones.

Mineleo is preparing to launch his own Chicken Backyard and Livestock business. He looks forward to combining his experiences with his vision of building a sustainable enterprise that sustains his family and creates opportunities for those around him. His entrepreneurial journey is fueled by a desire to remain resilient, plan wisely, and prioritize self-care while pursuing his goals.

As a finalist in the 𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗛𝗔 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, he encourages fellow OFWs to stay strong and focused on their dreams, transforming years of sacrifice into a fulfilling life back home. With deep appreciation, he expresses heartfelt gratitude to God, his family, the DMW, NRCO, and the LIKHA organizers for assisting OFWs and providing avenues that allow them to turn their ideas into reality.
