PRESS RELEASE | NBI SEIZES 78M WORTH OF MONSTER PRODUCTS

On May 15, 2026, the NBI – National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) and representatives from NBI - Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) executed anti-counterfeiting raid across Metro Manila, resulting in the massive seizure of 13,407 pieces of counterfeit “MONSTER” trademarked merchandise valued at approximately Php 78, 834,000.00.

Acting on the formal complaint filed by a brand representative, the NBI operatives conducted extensive surveillance and test-buy operations to confirm that the target warehouses are storing and distributing unauthorized products.

Armed with search warrants issued by Regional Trial Court, Branch 28 of Manila, NBI operatives implemented the said search warrants at seven (7) various locations, consisting of five (5) stalls at 168 and 999 shopping malls in Binondo, Manila, as well as two (2) storage warehouses in Brgy. Maysan, Valenzuela City.

The crackdown successfully disrupted an illicit distribution network that inflicted unfair competition and intellectual property theft against the authentic brand.

The business owners and operators responsible for the illegal warehouses and stalls facilities are being processed to face criminal charges for violation of Section 155 (Trademark Infringement) in relation to Section 170 of Republic Act No.8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines) before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Manila and Valenzuela.

Remember the days of keypad phones, downloaded ringtones, “GM” text messages, and waiting for unli calls and texts?

Today’s smartphones may look very different, but one thing remains the same, behind every way we connect are different forms of intellectual property working together.

From patented communication technologies and protected phone designs to copyrighted apps and recognizable trademarks, IP continues to play an important role in driving innovation in telecommunications.

IP helps encourage the continuous development of technologies that make communication faster, smarter, and more accessible across the world.

This World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, let’s take a closer look at how IP helps shape the way we connect, communicate, and innovate.

Different vibes, same message: fake products are NOT it. 😵

Whether you say “Support authentic products” or “Original lang tayo, periodt.”, supporting genuine products means supporting creators, businesses, and hard work.

Counterfeits may look tempting, but choosing authentic helps protect creativity and IP rights. IYKYK. 👀
