Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, expressed the PCGโs profound gratitude to President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. for his recognition of the dedication and sacrifices of Coastguardians in ensuring the safety and security, especially of Filipino fisherfolk, in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) today, July 27, 2026.
"The President's commendation is a tribute to every Coastguardian who faithfully performs his or her duty under challenging circumstances. It inspires us to continue serving with courage and unwavering commitment to our mandate of protecting the Filipino people and advancing our national interests at sea," Admiral Gavan said.
The PCG Commandant emphasized that the recognition reinforces the PCGโs resolve to fulfill its mandate in support of the Bagong Pilipinas vision of President Marcos, one that strengthens national resilience and promotes stability through responsible maritime governance.
He added that while the PCG remains steadfast in protecting the country's maritime rights and ensuring maritime safety, it continues to carry out its mission with professionalism and full respect for international law.
Admiral Gavan also underscored that the Coast Guard's operational efforts are guided by its Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) campaign and the Organized National Engagement (ONE) at Sea strategic concept which reflect the PCGโs commitment to serving with integrity and accountability.
"Guided by the principles of Bagong Pilipinas, iCARE campaign, and ONE at Sea strategic concept, we will continue to protect lives and contribute to a rules-based maritime environment for present and future generations," Admiral Gavan said.
