20 July 2026 - Dato’ Syed Bakri, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted a dinner in honour of YBhg. Datuk Ir. Ts. Shamsul bin Ahmad, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) during his working visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 20 July 2026.

The dinner was also attended by Mr. Sabah Al Mutlaq, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Alfanar Group, Dr. Samir J. Serhan, CEO of Acwa Power, as well as other senior officials from TNB, Alfanar Group and Acwa Power.

The President and CEO of TNB and his delegation also visited Alfanar Group, arranged by Alfanar Group and Mr. Yazrin Syakhairi Mahlan, Trade Commissioner.

Alfanar is one of the leading players in the Kingdom’s energy ecosystem. The delegation was warmly received by Mr. Sabah Al Mutlaq, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Alfanar Group and his team.

Founder and Chairman of ACWA Power, Mr. Mohammad A. Abunayyan, Saudi’s biggest Independent Water & Power Producer (IWPP) hosted a meeting with the President & CEO of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Datuk Ir. Ts. Shamsul Ahmad and his delegation. Also in attendance was Dato’ Syed Bakri, Ambassador of Malaysia to Saudi Arabia and Mr. Yazrin Syakhairi Mahlan, Trade Commissioner.

The session discussed the existing cooperation between TNB and ACWA Power that started since 2005, and some possible new areas of collaboration between the two companies. The session ended with a cordial luncheon at Chairman Abunayyan’s residence.

5 July 2026 - In Malaysia’s capacity as Chair of the ASEAN Riyadh Committee (ARC) for the year 2026, Dato’ Syed Bakri, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted the ARC Meeting at Rumah Malaysia in Riyadh on 5 July 2026. The meeting was attended by all Ambassadors from ASEAN countries based in Riyadh, namely the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines, the Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand, and the Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The meeting was held to discuss issues of mutual interest among ASEAN countries in Riyadh, while exploring programmes and activities of the ARC for the year 2026. Following the proceedings of the ARC meeting, H.E. Morino Yasunari, the Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was invited to provide briefing to ARC on Japan’s initiative on POWERR Asia.

The meeting concluded with a luncheon hosted by Dato’ Syed Bakri. A representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affair of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Ali Hamoud Al-Shehri, Director of Public Relations, was also present at the lunch.
