Abilene Fire Department crews are ALWAYS training. This month crews suited up for some search practice in a smoked out building, drug LOTS of hose and practiced some EMS skills.

We aren't always able to park the engine close to a fire on a scene. In some instances, like a fire in an apartment building in the middle of a complex, away from the road, we have to get creative in order to get the water to the fire. In the event our usual 200' of attack line cannot reach a fire, we will utilise a horizontal standpipe hose lay by incorporating additional hose found in our high-rise packs and a "a 2½”
to 1½” gated wye. This gives us a greater reach and we can still supply two attack lines.

We'd like to give a big shout out to our Training Field firefighters for setting up great drills like this for us.

Alright, all you CALF-goers, AFD is here to provide first aid to any festival attendees that may require it! Our Ambus is located at the corner of North 1st and Cedar Street, but we also have a mobile unit that will be periodically driving around. There are multiple signs out to direct you to the first aid station.

If you get bumped, bruised, scraped, scuffled, cut, scratched, or have any number of other medical issues, direct yourself to our aid station where our paramedics can fix you right up. For any life-threatening emergencies, call 9-1-1.

Station One, also known as Central Station and Headquarters, has been located at a few different addresses since the inception of the Abilene Fire Department. Here it is, in all it's vintage glory at 140 Mulberry Street!

Built in 1955 in a Modernism style, this station was the next iteration of Headquarters. Relocating from 402 Cedar Street, the new Headquarters station opened for business in 1956. This building served as the location for Central Station until it was moved to its current location at 250 Grape Street in 2001.

A page from the 1961 Abilene Fire Department Annual Report lists the equipment stationed there. Another page from the 1958 Annual Report gives a better view of the entire front of the station.

The last in our video series, made by Phil Sage, highlights our Swiftwater Rescue Team housed at Station 2. Crews at this station have been specially trained to perform rescues and recoveries in a moving water-based environment. Using specialized equipment, advanced rope techniques, and boat-based rescue, these crews are called into action whenever a life is at stake in a flood situation or fast-moving water. They have been called into action for our local waterways, as well as some in our neighboring towns.

We want to thank Phil for putting together all these incredible videos!
