On International Children's Day, we celebrate every child. The ones who laugh loudly. The ones still finding their voice. And the ones who are quietly healing.

To every child and family in Otero and Lincoln Counties who have trusted us with their hardest moments, you walked through our doors, and we have not forgotten you.

Children do not form their self-worth in a vacuum. They build it by watching the adults closest to them.

Here is what your mental health is teaching your child about themselves:

👉🏻 When you constantly put yourself down, your child learns that self-criticism is normal. They start doing it too.
👉🏻 When you refuse to ask for help, your child learns that needing support is a weakness. They will suffer in silence rather than speak up.
👉🏻 When you stay in relationships where you are not respected, your child learns that is what love looks like. They will accept the same.
👉🏻 When you ignore your own emotions, your child learns that feelings are not safe to express. They will bottle everything up.
👉🏻 When you are always anxious, your child's nervous system mirrors yours. Their bodies learn to stay on high alert even when there is no danger.

Your child is not just watching what you do. They are deciding what they deserve based on what they see.

Getting help for yourself is not selfish. It is one of the most direct ways to protect your child's sense of worth.

There are no words big enough for what they gave.

They left home knowing the risk. They served anyway. And some of them never made it back.

Today is for them. For the names on the memorials. For the empty seats at family tables. For the people who gave everything in service to this country.

We are grateful beyond what words can cover.
Happy Memorial Day. May we never forget the cost of the freedom we carry.
