🎶 Did You Know, Alamogordo?

In honor of International Country Music Day, did you know Alamogordo once had its own record label?

In 1958, local musician and songwriter Calvin Boles founded Yucca Records right here in Alamogordo. The independent label recorded country, rock ’n’ roll and blues musicians from southern New Mexico and Texas, with some of its early recordings made right here in Alamogordo.

More than 65 years later, country music is still making its way to our community. Country Music Hall of Famer and Grand Ole Opry member Marty Stuart will take the stage at the Flickinger Center for Performing Arts on September 26. 🎸

From Alamogordo’s own recording history to live country music today, we have a little extra reason to celebrate International Country Music Day!

⛳ Students recently had the opportunity to participate in New Mexico’s first GCSAA First Green event, hosted right here in Alamogordo!

Through four hands-on learning stations, students explored how subjects they learn in the classroom connect to careers in agriculture and golf course management. They learned about agronomy, irrigation, water quality, equipment and technology, while getting the chance to try out tools and ask questions along the way.

The event also highlighted the important role golf courses and their staff play as stewards of the environment. 🌱

The Utility Maintenance Division will begin installing a new water main on N Scenic Drive between Mosswood Avenue and Rosewood Avenue from Monday, September 21, 2026 until further notice:

-Eastbound traffic will be merged into one lane
-Westbound traffic will flow normally in two lanes

Traffic signage will be posted in the area during this lane closure. Water service is not expected to be disrupted or otherwise affected at this time. For any upcoming water outage or disruption of service, residents will be notified separately.

Hispanic heritage is an important part of the story of Alamogordo and the Tularosa Basin.

Hispanic communities have been part of our area's history since well before Alamogordo was founded in 1898, helping shape the culture and character of the region we know today.

From September 15 through October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month gives us an opportunity to recognize that history while also celebrating the people, traditions and contributions that remain an important part of our community today.

We’re proud to celebrate the rich Hispanic heritage that continues to be part of the place we call home.
