We applaud Rep. Ritchie Torres and Rep. Grace Meng for leading a New York House Delegation letter to ensure all states receive the two-year delay of the SNAP cost-shift. Unless Congress acts, New York taxpayers will soon face a $1.2 billion penalty even though the state's SNAP payment accuracy has improved.

Our message is simple: Congress must extend the SNAP cost-shift delay to all states, not just those with the highest payment error rates.

The law establishes an up to 15% state contribution rate, depending on the state’s error rate.

A new school year is a great time to take a fresh look at CACFP. The Child and Adult Care Food Program supports nutrition from early childhood to teenage years. Many child care and afterschool programs are eligible but not participating. Programs can apply at any time during the year.

We were honored to join New York Health Foundation's 20th anniversary celebration last week.

CEO Andrés Vives spoke about the Healthy School Meals for All New York Kids Campaign, sharing insights from our successful campaign for statewide universal school meals, highlighting our work to support implementation, and outlining the challenges ahead as cuts to SNAP impact families and meal programs alike.

SNAP helps families buy food, but many eligible households aren't participating. Schools and community organizations can help close that gap by sharing information about SNAP in their back-to-school communications.

Our SNAP Outreach Toolkit has ready-made flyers, graphics, and sample language in English and Spanish. Use these resources to promote SNAP to families and connect them to prescreening and application assistance.

Congratulations to Jessica Pino-Goodspeed, our Deputy Director of Public Affairs, on being named to Food Research & Action Center's Top 10 Latino/a/e Advocates to Watch.

Jessica's work to expand access to school meals in New York is truly unmatched. She played a leading role in the Healthy School Meals for All New York Kids campaign, which brought universal school meals to 2.7 million children in our state. Long before that extraordinary victory, she championed policies that expanded breakfast after the bell, banned meal shaming, and strengthened food access for students.

She has cultivated diverse coalitions committed to addressing child hunger and engaged those networks well beyond school meals, connecting the dots between SNAP and child nutrition programs for partners and elected officials alike.

In her nearly 15 years with Hunger Solutions New York, she has worked tirelessly to strengthen access to meal programs and, ultimately, ensure New York's kids are better fed. Congratulations on a well-deserved recognition!
