As the use of e-bikes, e-scooters, and similar motorized personal transportation devices continues to grow, Sweet Home Central School District has established a clear standard to ensure the safety of all students, staff, and visitors while on District property.
Please note that new signage and parking is now available for those individuals riding e-vehicles to school. Starting on the opening day of school, any student riding an e-bike, e-scooter, or a similar motorized transportation device must adhere to the following rules and regulations:
Age requirement: Only individuals 16 years of age or older may operate an e-bike or e-scooter per New York State law. This will be enforced at Sweet Home. That means these devices are only allowed at the High School in designated areas. E-scooter, e-bikes, and similar devices are NOT permitted at the Middle School or any Sweet Home elementary building.
Helmets are required at all times while riding on district property.
All traffic laws and Sweet Home posted signs must be obeyed.
Students must ride these devices in a safe manner.
Designated parking: E-bikes, e-scooters and similar motorized devices must be parked in designated spots only. For students riding these devices to school, the parking location will now be in front of District Office at 1901 Sweet Home Road. This designated space will be marked off and will be exclusive for these devices. Students must park their device at this location. If a device is parked in a non-designated space, it will be confiscated.
Registration: All e-bikes and e-scooters must be registered with Sweet Home High School, similar to the way students register their cars to park in the High School parking lot. After registering their device, students will receive a tag that must be displayed on the device.
Students who do not follow these requirements may have their riding privileges revoked and could face disciplinary action consistent with the Code of Conduct. Unregistered, improperly parked, or otherwise non-compliant devices are also subject to removal or towing by the Amherst Police Department. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school community safe as more of these devices are on our roadways.
