Daniel and the OCCCO Civic Engagement team made a difference during the 2026 California Primary ElectionElection📞🔥:
Every call was an act of belonging. Every conversation was a reminder that voting matters. Not only for ourselves, but also for many of our neighbors, friends, and family members whose lives are shaped every day by the decisions of those elected, even when they cannot cast a ballot themselves. When we vote, we lift up our voices and theirs too.

For our Latino community in Orange County, this Get Out The Vote effort was about more than turnout. It was about strengthening the bonds between us, our community, and our shared responsibility to help shape the future by electing leaders who reflect our values. It was about making our voices impossible to ignore. It was about honoring the generations who fought for this right and investing in the generations still to come. And that matters.

But the work does not stop here. The doors we knocked, the calls we made, and the relationships we built, are all part of OCCCO's ongoing work to plant the seeds of a future where our community's are centered in Unconditional Belonging.

We are proud to share that OCCCO's own Executive Director Miguel Hernandez has been featured in a new piece published by the UC Berkeley Othering and Belonging Institute, one of the nation's leading research and organizing institutes dedicated to building a more just and inclusive society.

The article, "Why Build Long Bridges? Living Our Values toward Wholeness and Belonging for All", is part of the Blueprint for Belonging series on new organizing strategies for California's future. It lifts up OCCCO's model of faith-rooted, community-led organizing and how we develop everyday leaders to drive systemic change right here in Orange County.

This is a powerful read for anyone who believes that belonging is not just an idea, it is something we build together, one relationship, one conversation, and one community at a time.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to St. Mary’s Catholic Church for opening their doors so we could host Lucha to the Polls. We are also deeply grateful to everyone who came to the event and helped build community.
As we continue this work, we remember that the right to vote was not simply given; it was fought for by our ancestors, elders, and communities who believed in a more just future. Voting is one way we honor that legacy. It is an act of love for our families, our neighbors, and the communities we call home.
