HOCC is humbled and excited to announce that commensurate with HOCC Resolution 2026-01, we have been chosen as a recipient of one of Mayor LaFrance’s “Beyond the Beige” Art Grants. The grant will be used to bring some life to a concrete wall at Lake Otis and O’Malley. Thanks to the Mayor and her administration as well as Anchorage Community Development Authority for this opportunity. Thanks also to our partner, Federation of Community Councils, for all of their assistance. We will be working to issue an RFP soon, so keep an eye out!

Local Lens: Missing Middle Housing

Assembly Members Baldwin Day and Martinez recently announced their proposal to allow “missing middle” housing types — including duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, cottage courts, and townhomes — in targeted areas along key transportation corridors. The Missing Middle Housing proposal, AO 2026-85, refines the 2025 Transit Supportive Development Overlay (TSDO) proposal, which received public comment and was recommended for approval with amendments by the Planning & Zoning Commission last year, by aligning zoning regulations with the city’s adopted planning framework and encouraging incremental housing density in areas already served by roads, utilities, transit, and other amenities. The proposal also reflects the Assembly’s adopted economic development framework by supporting more efficient use of existing public investment, proactive action to address housing needs, and broader access to housing opportunity.

After the presentation, the audience will be given the opportunity to ask questions. Join us online on Monday, July 13th at 6pm to learn more and ask questions about the proposal.

HOCC has delivered Resolution 2026-04 along with half a dozen letters of support to State and Municipal officials in support of non-motorized transportation improvements along Brayton Drive between DeArmoun and Dimond. We look forward to working with our partners at all levels to see these low cost, high return projects implemented.

Thanks to everyone who came out tonight! We elected new officers, passed the Brayton Drive resolution, and had great discussions on the gas line, school closures, and defined benefits. Welcome to our new officers. Thank you for stepping up. A heartfelt thank you to our departing officers. Thank you for all you’ve done for the Community and we will see you next meeting! We are off for our regularly scheduled summer break. We will return on 20 August at 7pm at Huffman Elementary and online. Look for updates on wood chipping, sprinklers, and other topics of interest in the meantime.

In response to the high number of pedestrian deaths on State-owned roadways in recent years, the State of Alaska DOT&PF will be holding a public meeting about safety measures for Tudor/Muldoon Roads on 10 June from 5:30pm-8pm in the Wilda Marsten Theater at Loussac Library.

As a result of our Brayton Drive walk audit, our Brayton Drive neighbors have put forward a resolution to be considered tomorrow night at our regular meeting. The text is contained below. They are gathering letters of support as well. One neighbor who is representing the neighborhood will present the resolution tomorrow night. This resolution also builds on a CIP request that has been on the HOCC CIP list for some time.
