SCAM ALERT! 🚨🚨 Please be aware of scam emails that appear to come from the Planning Department or the Planning and Zoning Commission with requests for payment.

The Municipality will never ask for a wire transfer, and most payments are completed at the time of application.

Please contact the Planning Department directly at 907-343-7900 if you have any questions about a fee.

Be aware of fraudulent emails impersonating government officials.
Official communications originate from verified domains, such as: [email protected]

Illegitimate emails often use deceptive formatting or look-alike domains to appear authentic. For instance, [email protected] is fraudulent and should be treated with caution.

You can submit a report to www.IC3.gov for cyber-enabled crime, online fraud, and more.

In addition to submitting a report to IC3, you can file a report with APD by calling 311 or online by visiting anchoragepolice.com

Storm Drain vs. Sewer Drain: What's the Difference?

While they may look similar, storm drains and sewer drains serve very different purposes.

🌧️ Storm drains collect rainwater and snowmelt from streets, parking lots, and neighborhoods. Before reaching local creeks and waterways, stormwater may pass through green infrastructure such as rain gardens, bioswales, oil-grit separators (OGS), and sediment ponds that help remove pollutants. However, unlike wastewater, stormwater is not fully treated, making it important to keep pollutants out of storm drains.

🚽 Sewer drains carry wastewater from homes and businesses to a wastewater treatment plant, where it undergoes extensive treatment to remove solids, bacteria, and other contaminants before the cleaned water is safely returned to the environment.

Remember: Only rain belongs in the storm drain! Keeping trash, pet waste, chemicals, and other pollutants out of storm drains helps protect our waterways and aquatic habitat.

🎣 Keep Alaska's waters healthy—dispose of fish waste the right way!

Did you know that fish can carry waterway-specific diseases? Improperly disposing of fish carcasses can spread these diseases from one watershed to another, putting local fish populations at risk.

🐟 If you're cleaning your catch where you caught it:
✔️ Chop the carcass into small pieces and dispose of it in fast-moving water.

🗑️ If you're cleaning your fish somewhere else:
✔️ Bag it and throw it in the trash or take it directly to a landfill.
💡 Pro tip: Freeze fish waste until trash day to help eliminate odors!

A few simple steps can help protect Alaska's fisheries for generations to come. Thanks for doing your part! 🌊💙
