Assistant LTC Ombudsman Leana Christy recently had a wonderful time meeting with volunteer LTC Ombudsman, Darcey Sharp, in Fairbanks. Darcey has been serving with our office for two years, and residents consistently share how much they value her compassion and advocacy.

From her home, Darcey travels long distances to visit residents in long-term care, offering both personal support and strong advocacy for their rights. Her dedication and tireless commitment make her a true asset to our mission of improving the lives of those in LTC.

If you’re in the Fairbanks area and need someone to connect with, Darcey is a great resource — and her work is a reminder of the difference one dedicated volunteer can make.

In a national survey of 450+ residents, many reported food that was cold, unappealing, or didn’t meet their medical or cultural needs. Consumer Voice’s issue brief, More Than a Meal, breaks down what residents are experiencing and what needs to change.

Most of us are used to having the ability to grab a quick snack whenever we want it. That doesn't end when you enter a nursing home. Facilities must present snack options if a resident would like them. To bolster your right to snacks or alternative meals, make sure it's in your care plan!
