SOBER-FRIENDLY EVENTS | Connecting with others can help reduce isolation and build support.

Groups don’t have to be intense or deeply personal. Simply sharing space around a common interest can help you feel more connected.

Next Move connects you to sober-friendly events and community gatherings statewide. Visit NextMove.alaska.gov to see what’s available near you: https://nextmove.alaska.gov/?utm_campaign=nextmove&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=paid

REDUCING THE STIGMA OF SUBSTANCE USE | There’s no “right” way to recover.

People choose different paths depending on what they need, what feels right for them, and what fits their lives.

The words you use matter. Speaking without judgment can help someone feel more comfortable asking for support and accessing treatment or recovery services.

Visit NextMove.alaska.gov for more ways to help reduce the stigma and support those who may be struggling with substance use: https://nextmove.alaska.gov/?utm_campaign=nextmove&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=paid

WHO'S YOUR SAFETY SQUAD? | That's the question Aspen the Goat asks in the latest activity sheet from Hope the Husky & Friends.

This coloring and discussion activity helps children think about the people they enjoy spending time with. A related parent resource provides conversation starters to help reinforce the power of caring relationships and connecting with others.

Using our downloadable activity pages can help children help themselves feel safe, supported, and ready for new challenges.

BACK TO LEARNING SAFELY | Head injuries can make it hard for students to learn new information, concentrate, and pay attention. Kids may feel confused, dizzy, and irritable.

Schools play a critical role helping students return to school after a brain injury. Schools can:
• provide accommodations.
• give extra time.
• allow for breaks.
• develop return-to-school plans.

For more ideas and tips to support students, visit https://returntoschool.org/ak

6,900 KITS. ONE INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY. | In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, volunteers came together at the Spenard Community Recreation Center to assemble 6,900 naloxone kits that will be distributed across Alaska.

Every kit assembled helps make lifesaving naloxone more accessible, and we couldn’t have done it without the volunteers and partners who showed up, pitched in and helped make the day a success.

Thank you to everyone who helped us build a safer, more prepared Alaska.

Learn where to find naloxone at ProjectHOPE.alaska.gov.

988 DAY | September 8 (9/8) is "988 Day," and it's a day for showing up and caring out loud.

Mental health matters. And 988 provides judgment-free support 24/7. On 9/8, help spread the word that help is just three numbers away.

The 2026 theme, “988 Reasons: Your reason is reason enough,” reminds us that you don’t have to be in crisis to reach out to 988. Whatever you’re facing, big or small, your reason is reason enough.

Post. Share. Text. Check in. However you show up, it counts.

Need ideas? We’ve got you. The 988 Day toolkit is live and packed with sample posts, graphics, and ways to get involved.

Join us on September 8, 2026, and help spread the word about 988.

You might be surprised. What’s your reason?" Text scrolls across the bottom of the screen: "Whatever your reason, Call, Text, Chat 988. 24/7." Logos are shown for 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline and 988 Day.
