Middle River Man Gets Life in Prison Plus 20 Years Sentence for 2022 Drive-thru Window Murder

This afternoon, in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, Ja’Quan Dontremique Green, age 25, of Middle River, was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Elizabeth Morris to Life in Prison plus 20 years for the May 2022 drive-thru window shooting death of 23-year-old Britrain Gray at the McDonald’s located on Route 3 South in Gambrills. An Anne Arundel County jury convicted the defendant of first-degree murder and Use of a Firearm in a Crime of Violence on January 21, 2026.

State’s Attorney Anne C**t Leitess commented, “Today’s sentence delivers justice for Britrain Gray and ensures that a dangerous offender is removed from our community. This senseless violence stole a young man’s life while he was working the overnight shift at the drive-through window. Though nothing can undo this tragedy, I hope this sentence brings some measure of peace and closure to Britrain’s family, many of whom endured seeing the horrific evidence of their brother gunned down while he was building Happy Meal boxes for kids.”

Leitess added, “I want to commend Assistant State’s Attorneys Glen Neubauer and Murphy Hartford for their tireless efforts securing a conviction, and Detective Juan Honesto and the Anne Arundel County Police Department Homicide Unit put together a thorough investigation.”

Jury Finds Baltimore Man Guilty in March 2024 Kidnapping, Murder Outside an Annapolis Middle School.

This afternoon, an Anne Arundel County jury found 37-year-old Marquis Mayo guilty of First-Degree Felony Murder, Kidnapping, and Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Violent Crime in the March 2024 kidnapping and murder of David Lewis Wi******er Jr., 47, outside an Annapolis middle school.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 30, 2026.

State's Attorney Anne C**t Leitess commented, "Today's guilty verdict marks the third individual held accountable in the death of David Wi******er Jr. I want to credit the excellent investigative work by Detective Courtney Moore and the Annapolis Police Department, along with the Baltimore Police Department and FBI."

Leitess added, "David Wi******er's family was victimized twice - during the home invasion and senseless murder of their son, who was kidnapped in Baltimore, stuffed in a trunk, and killed in a wooded area near a school. I am grateful that we were able to bring justice for them today."

We are pleased to welcome our newest Assistant State's Attorney, Bailey Armstrong!

She was sworn in this morning by Clerk of Circuit Court Scott Poyer before the Honorable Judge Donna Schaeffer.

Ms. Armstrong joins us following her recent clerkship in the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court with the Honorable Judge Cathleen Vitale. She is a former judicial intern for the Honorable Judge Douglas Nazarian on the Appellate Court of Maryland. Between 2021 and 2024, she held several staff roles in legislative support for United States Senator Joni Ernst.

Ms. Armstrong received her Juris Doctor from the American University Washington College of Law in May 2025 and her B.A. in Political Science and Legal Studies from Concordia University in Wisconsin.

Curtis Bay Man Sentenced in Murder of His Wife

This afternoon in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, Cedric Dion Callaway, age 51, of Curtis Bay, was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Christine Celeste to Life in prison, suspending all but 40 years for the May 2025 Brooklyn Park homicide of his wife, 44-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Bundy. Callaway plead guilty to first-degree murder on August 13, 2026, the fourth day of his jury trial.

State’s Attorney Anne C**t Leitess commented, “This was a brutal, calculated act of domestic violence, and while no sentence can undo the devastating loss of Sarah Bundy, today’s prison term ensures Cedric Callaway is held accountable for his heinous actions. Our hearts remain with Ms. Bundy’s loved ones as they continue to grieve."

Middle River Man Pleads Guilty to First-Degree Murder in August 2022 Home Invasion Shooting

On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, Andre Raquan Riggs, age 28, of Middle River, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and Firearm Use in a Felony Crime of Violence in the August 2022 shooting death of 27-year-old Matthew Ponder, of Glen Burnie. The Honorable Judge Robert Thompson scheduled sentencing for November 19, 2026.

Following the guilty plea, State’s Attorney Anne C**t Leitess commented, “This was certainly a terrifying home invasion that ultimately resulted in the tragic death of Mr. Ponder. Digital evidence played a critical role in identifying this defendant, who came to the home armed with a gun for the purpose of stealing valuables in the middle of the night. I want to commend detectives and Assistant State’s Attorney Poma for their work in bringing this defendant to justice.”

Curtis Bay Mother Pleads Guilty to Child Abuse, Involuntary Manslaughter in Toddler Son's Overdose Death

This morning in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, Brooke Houck, 29, of Curtis Bay, pleaded guilty to child abuse resulting in death and involuntary manslaughter in the 2024 death of her toddler son, Landon, who overdosed on fentanyl he ingested at the family home.

In addition, Houck entered guilty pleas to neglect of a minor, first- and second-degree child abuse, and reckless endangerment. Sentencing is scheduled for November 20, 2026.

"As parents, it is our duty to shield and protect our children, who rely on us to keep them safe," said State's Attorney Anne C**t Leitess. "Not only was Landon living in deplorable conditions, but his mother put her addiction ahead of his well-being by actively purchasing, using, and leaving drugs within his reach. Her selfish actions highlight how addiction not only affects users but also those most vulnerable around them."

CASE UPDATE: Davidsonville Man to Serve Over 10 years in Prison for Possession of Child Po*******hy

This morning in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, the Honorable Judge Sidney Butcher sentenced Christopher Willard Clendenin, age 38, of Davidsonville, to 35 years suspending all but 10 1/2 years to serve in the Division of Correction. Upon release from prison, Clendenin must serve 5 years of supervised probation, participate in the COMET program, and register as a Tier 1 s*x offender for 15 years. Clendenin received credit for 97 days’ time served.

On May 28, 2026, an Anne Arundel County jury found Clendenin guilty of seven counts of possession of child po*******hy.

State’s Attorney Anne C**t Leitess commented, “The possession and distribution of child s*xual abuse material further revictimizes our most vulnerable, and behind the images is a story of abuse and trauma. Our prosecutors learned from the Australian Federal Police that one of the videos the defendant possessed depicted a female child under the age of 4 engaged in a s*x act with an adult. We also learned from the National Crime Agency in the United Kingdom that a separate image in the defendant’s files showed a 4-year-old female from the United Kingdom being r***d by an adult male.”

Leitess added, “This defendant has failed to take responsibility for his actions or acknowledge the harm that this type of crime causes. The Court’s guidelines sentence delivers significant prison time and s*x offender monitoring after release to protect the community and ensure the defendant’s compliance.”

Curtis Bay Man Pleads Guilty to First-Degree Murder During Jury Trial

On Thursday, August 13, 2026 in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, Cedric Dion Callaway, age 51, of Curtis Bay, plead guilty to first-degree murder in the May 2025 Brooklyn Park homicide of his wife, 44-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Bundy. The guilty plea came on day four of a jury trial. The Honorable Judge Christine Celeste, who presided over the trial, scheduled sentencing for September 15, 2026.

State’s Attorney Anne C**t Leitess commented, “The defendant’s surprise plea was certainly a recognition that things were not going his way during trial. This was a cold-blooded, heinous crime where the defendant killed his wife and mother of his child, then left her under a pile of tires in an alley. I am grateful that we were able to get justice for Ms. Bundy. I want to commend ASA Anthony on her strong prosecution at trial that led the defendant to plead guilty.”

Hagerstown Woman Found Guilty of Neglect of Minor in November 2024 fatal child fall from car on I-97 in Millersville

On Wednesday, August 12, 2026 an Anne Arundel County jury found Lorraine Marie O’Neill, age 68, of Hagerstown, MD guilty of Neglect of a Minor in connection with the death of her 7- year-old grandson. The verdict was returned following a four-day trial in Circuit Court. The Honorable Judge Ginina Jackson-Stevenson scheduled sentencing for October 2, 2026. Neglect of a Minor is a misdemeanor offense that carries a maximum penalty of five years’ incarceration and/or a $5,000 fine.

On the evening of November 24, 2024, Lorraine O’Neill was driving northbound on I-97 in Millersville in a 2011 Mazda 3. Her 7-year-old grandson was riding in a car seat in the rear passenger side of the vehicle. As she was traveling near I-97 and Benfield Boulevard, the child fell out of the vehicle’s rear passenger window, landing in the roadway, and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

At approximately 7:00 pm, Troopers with the Maryland State Police were dispatched for a reported pedestrian lying in the roadway at I-97 near Benfield Boulevard. Anne Arundel County Fire and EMS responders pronounced the child deceased at the scene. The defendant told police she noticed the child was missing from his car seat in the area of I-695 and Route 2, so she pulled over at the nearest gas station. The distance between where the child fell out of the vehicle and where she stopped was approximately 11 miles. O’Neill told investigators that she allowed the child to play with the car's rear power window and that the window's child lock was not engaged on the night of the incident.

Following the jury’s verdict, State’s Attorney Anne C**t Leitess commented, “This case is a tragic reminder that adults must remain vigilant when children are in their care. While this was undoubtedly a traumatic loss for this grandmother, it was likewise traumatic for the witnesses at the scene that night, including the first responders and the two men who pulled the child from the roadway. This defendant travelled eleven miles north on I-97 after the child fell from the vehicle before she realized her grandson was not inside the car. I believe that Ms. O’Neill has failed to accept responsibility for her actions, from the night of the crash to her testimony at trial which was markedly different from her original statements to investigators. This case has always been about accountability for the death of a child.”
