This afternoon, our Summer Law Clerks toured the State’s Attorney’s Office Body-Worn Camera (BWC) Unit office in Annapolis.

This team, comprised of 11 paralegals and a supervisor, is responsible for review and shielding of police body-worn camera video footage in Anne Arundel County, as required under Maryland law.

In Fiscal Year 2020, our Office established the BWC Unit from the ground up. We were among the first State’s Attorney’s Offices to create a dedicated BWC Unit, which has become a model statewide.

In 2025, the BWC Unit processed 21,762 cases and reviewed 4,086 cases, for a total of 665,227 minutes of video reviewed.

Police body-worn cameras serve as a valuable tool for documentation of police interactions with the public while on duty. It increases transparency, strengthens criminal prosecutions, and deters misconduct on the part of officers and civilians.

The Maryland Police Accountability Act of 2021 mandated that all municipal and county law enforcement agencies officers be equipped with body-worn cameras by July 1, 2023. All additional agencies, including state law enforcement, were required to equip their officers with cameras by July 1, 2025.

Our Office is pleased to partner with the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging & Disabilities to provide presentations at Senior Activity Centers across the County during June’s Elder Abuse Awareness Month. This month serves as a time to recognize, prevent, and address mistreatment of older adults, including financial exploitation.

We provided our first group session last week at the Pascal Senior Activity Center in Glen Burnie.

Deputy State’s Attorney Brian Marsh’s presentation, “Communities Against Senior Exploitation”, discusses the prevalence of financial exploitation and provides background on common tactics that scammers use to steal money from unsuspecting victims.

Mr. Marsh also stresses the importance of reporting all suspicious activity and provides practical, actionable advice for seniors to secure personal information and recognize red flags.

Our goal is to empower citizens with the knowledge and tools to confidently recognize and avoid becoming a victim of predatory schemes.

Yesterday, in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, a jury found Christopher Willard Clendenin, age 38, of Davidsonville, guilty of seven counts of possession of child po*******hy.

Following the jury’s guilty verdict, the Honorable Judge Sidney Butcher revoked the defendant’s bond and ordered him held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center pending his sentencing hearing on July 27, 2026.

State’s Attorney Anne C**t Leitess commented, “behind every offender possessing child sexual abuse material, there is a child victim that has been exploited and deeply harmed in the creation of these images. We will always stand with victims and ensure that those who prey on our young and vulnerable be held accountable in the court of law.”
