Earlier today, the Owasco Fire Department and mutual aid partners responded to a reported structure fire near Owasco Elementary School.
Upon arrival, crews located a vegetation fire that had extended onto a residential porch. Firefighters quickly contained and extinguished the fire, preventing further damage to the home.
The cause was determined to be accidental, sparked by a propane torch being used for w**d control.

⚠️ Propane Torch Safety Tips
If you use a torch for w**d management, please keep these critical safety precautions in mind:

Watch the Perimeter: Keep open flames well away from dry plants, mulch, wooden fences, porches, and buildings.

Stay Prepared: Always have a charged garden hose or a fire extinguisher within arm's reach before you start.

Do a Final Check: Wet down the treated area when finished to ensure no hidden embers are smoldering in the soil or roots.

It is with profound sadness that the Owasco Fire Department announces the passing of Fire Chaplain Father James Enright. A dedicated member of our ranks for 29 years, Father Enright was a pillar of compassion, providing unwavering support to victims, their families, and first responders during their darkest hours. Beyond his ministry, he was an active and vital presence in our department, serving as Fire Police and in various incident support roles. His legacy of service and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
