Words matter. People matter more.

Most of us know the R-word shouldn’t be used to describe a person with an intellectual disability. But what about using it to describe a bad decision, a ridiculous situation, or something we think is stupid?

At CLA, we think it’s time to retire the R-word altogether.

Changing our language isn’t about shaming the past. It’s about what we choose going forward.

Don’t normalize it. Retire it.
