TWDB’s Water Weekly: This summer's high temperatures and limited precipitation have taken a toll on the Texas landscape. The latest drought map for conditions as of August 25 shows the largest one-week drought expansion since June 2008. Meet Taylor Christian, Manager of Data Coordination and Innovation in the office of TWDB’s Water Science and Conservation. She works across a wide range of projects to help make Texas water data more FAIR: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

Her work spans both long-term initiatives and day-to-day efforts that improve how people access and understand water information. From supporting user research that is helping shape the future of the Water Data for Texas platform to advancing data governance through standardized metadata, Taylor is focused on ensuring TWDB’s data resources are easy to find, understand, and use.

Since joining TWDB in 2014, Taylor has built a diverse public service career, from analyzing data that informs water demand projections to traveling across Texas for financial assistance workshops and serving as a bridge between data experts and those seeking access to water-related information.

A sixth-generation Texan with a lifelong connection to the state's waterways, Taylor is passionate about making water data easier to find, understand, and apply for the benefit of communities across Texas.

Reminder: The Texas Water Development Board, in partnership with the Bureau of Economic Geology, is working to improve groundwater use estimates across Texas, and groundwater stakeholders can play an important role.

We encourage you to share this brief, anonymous survey with well owners whose wells are not metered and do not report pumping data. The voluntary survey gathers basic well information that will help improve groundwater use estimates and support long-term water planning efforts statewide.

Reminder: The Texas Water Development Board is requesting public comment on a proposed addition to the definition of “agricultural” for the Agricultural Water Conservation Program.

The proposal would include crop production, horticulture, aquaculture, forestry, and livestock or poultry operations, while excluding activities that are primarily industrial, municipal, or commercial.
