Foundation for the Homeless (FFH) currently has limited funding available to assist eligible households experiencing a financial crisis.

Available assistance may include:

Rental assistance
Utility assistance
Rental debt
Eviction prevention
Minor car repairs
Childcare assistance for children enrolled in an eligible program

FFH is not able to provide hotel or motel assistance.

All assistance is subject to eligibility requirements and funding availability.

*FFH requires that referrals come directly from a social service agency or other referring organization. Please DO NOT call regarding referrals.*

To make a referral, please email [email protected] and include:

Referring staff member’s name
Agency/organization name
Client’s name
Client’s phone number and/or email address
Specific assistance being requested
Exact dollar amount needed

Once the referral is received, FFH staff will review the request and follow up as appropriate based on eligibility and available resources.

Austin’s city budget reflects months of hard work, tough conversations, and difficult choices.

We want to recognize the members of the Austin City Council and their staffs who worked tirelessly to help shape a budget that continues to recognize the importance of social services and support for our unhoused neighbors and families.

Budgets are never easy. There are competing priorities, limited resources, and decisions that affect real people across our community. Maintaining critical social service funding is more than a budget decision—it is an investment in the health, stability, and future of Austin and the people who call this city home.

Thank you to the Council members, their teams, City staff, service providers, advocates, and community members who put in the work to make sure these essential services remained part of Austin’s commitment to its residents.

Supporting our neighbors strengthens our entire city.

🏠 This year, we've helped 31 families stay home.

That's 101 individuals — parents, kids, grandparents — who didn't have to face the fear of losing the roof over their heads. So far in 2026, Foundation for the Homeless has provided rental assistance to 31 households, totaling 341 cumulative months of housing support.

But we know that paying rent isn't enough on its own. That's why every single family we help also gets paired with a case manager for hands-on, intensive support — someone in their corner helping them build a real, lasting plan to stay stable long after the assistance ends.

Because keeping a family housed isn't just about one month's rent. It's about kids staying in the same school. It's about parents keeping their jobs instead of losing them to an eviction notice. It's about giving families the breathing room and the support to get back on their feet — for good.

None of this happens without YOU. Every donation, every volunteer hour, every person who shares our story helps us reach the next family who needs us. 💛

A new audit from the city of Austin’s auditor’s office found the city is often paying nonprofits for “services that were not fully delivered.”

A proposed budget for Austin’s 2026-2027 fiscal year drew criticism from speakers during Thursday’s City Council meeting, which is set to go into effect on Oct. 1. The $6.6 billion proposal is an increase from last year’s $6.3 billion budget, and was criticized for including an additional $24 million allocation to the Austin Police Department’s budget while reducing or reallocating $13.3 million in social service funding to the public health and homeless strategy departments.

Austin’s proposed FY2027 budget includes a $5.1 million reduction in social service contracts. While across-the-board cuts may appear equitable, they are not equal in their impact.

Smaller nonprofit agencies have fewer reserves, leaner staffing and less capacity to absorb funding losses. The same percentage cut applied to both a large organization and a small community-based agency can force the smaller provider to eliminate staff, reduce services or close an effective program altogether.

Funding decisions should also consider performance. Agencies that consistently meet or exceed their contracted outcomes should not receive the same cuts as organizations that fall short of their obligations. Austin should evaluate results, community impact and organizational capacity—not impose uniform reductions that disproportionately harm smaller, high-performing providers and the residents who rely on them.

We urge the Austin City Council to protect essential social services and adopt a fair, performance-informed approach to any necessary reductions.
