💧Help us Celebrate Iowa Drinking Water & Wastewater Workers Week! 💧

August 23–29, 2026, is Water and Wastewater Workers of Iowa Week — a time to recognize the dedicated professionals who work every day to protect public health, provide safe and reliable drinking water, maintain critical infrastructure, and safeguard our environment.

Here in Calmar, we are especially proud to recognize our Public Works team:

Much of the work these professionals do happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt by every resident, every day. From keeping clean water flowing to maintaining our wastewater systems, their knowledge, dedication, and commitment help make Avcoa a safe, healthy, and great place to call home.

🐾💦 DOGGIE DIP IS TOMORROW - BRING VACCINATION RECORDS - RAIN OR SHINE WITH NO LIGHTENING! 💦🐾

We’re ready for one last BIG SPLASH at the Avoca Splash Aquatic Center! Before you and your pup head out tomorrow, there’s one VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER:

🚨 PLEASE BRING PROOF OF VACCINATIONS! 🚨
All dogs must be up-to-date on Rabies and Distemper/Parvo vaccinations to participate. Licensed Avoca pups have already shown proof of rabies, but we need proof of Distemper/Parvo; for visiting pups from the rural or neighboring communities, we need to see both.

👉 If you don’t have a copy of your dog’s vaccination records, please call your veterinarian TODAY and get them before tomorrow’s event! Having your records ready will help us get everyone checked in quickly and safely. See the picture below for details!

The Iowa Department of Transportation is asking for public feedback on a proposed bridge replacement on County Road L-19 over Interstate 29 in Pottawattamie County.

The pool may be closed for people, but we have one last splash planned for the pups! 🐶☀️(Rural and neighboring community pups also welcome with vaccination records.)

Licensed Avoca pups, please bring copies of your vaccination records (if you're licensed, we have your proof of rabies, but not distemper/parvo - bring proof of these, please).

💦 TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO SWIM AT AVOCA SPLASH! 💦

It’s hard to believe another pool season is coming to an end! Today, August 12, is the final day of the 2026 swimming season at Avoca Splash Aquatic Center (for humans).

A big THANK YOU to everyone who spent part of their summer with us! We truly appreciate your patronage and support of Avoca Splash, and we hope your summer was filled with sunshine, laughter, fun and plenty of cherished memories at the pool. 💙

We also want to thank Tina Scroggie, our Pool Manager, Maeleigh Rold, Assistant Manager, Kendra Hansen, Lead Guard and all of our incredible lifeguards and concession workers for their commitment to ensuring a safe and fun time for all! We appreciate you!!

In case you haven't heard...🐾 Doggie Dip is THIS SATURDAY! 💦
We’ve added a few more fun things to the afternoon besides letting the dogs take over the pool! 😂 (PLEASE SHARE THIS POST and TAG your friends with PUPS)!!

Bring your pup dressed up for our Pet Costume Contest, grab them a homemade PB & Banana Pupcake or Dukie Bite, and thanks to Harlan Veterinary Associates, we’ll have tennis balls for some extra pool fun!

We’re also excited to have Pottawattamie County Animal Control joining us to meet families, answer questions and share information about responsible pet care.

And don’t forget—Megan Sue Imagery will be there capturing all the wet, wild and adorable moments, with affordable photo packages available.

WE'LL CAPTURE THE FUN! 🐾 We have something fun to add to Saturday’s Doggie Dip!💦🐶

Megan Walker with Megan Sue Imagery will be joining us and taking photos of the dogs while they’re swimming, playing and making a splash. She’ll also have a fun backdrop set up for anyone who would like a more posed photo of their pup.

Megan is offering several really affordable photo packages starting at just $15, with options for prints and digital images. You can check out the attached flyer for package details and place your order with Megan at the pool.

💦 One Last Splash... Then It's the Dogs' Turn! 🐾

Summer is winding down, and so is another great season at the Avoca Splash Aquatic Center!

🐶 Then... it's time for our FIRST-EVER Doggie Dip!

🕓 4:00–6:00 PM

Bring your four-legged best friend for a fun evening of swimming, treats, games, pet photos, information and resources, refreshments, and more!

💙 Free-will donations are welcome, and 100% of proceeds will help improve the City of Avoca Dog Park.

To help keep everyone safe:
🐾 Dogs must be at least 6 months old
🐾 Current Rabies and Distemper/Parvo vaccinations are required.
🐾 City of Avoca dogs should be currently licensed.
🐾 Dogs must remain on a leash until entering the pool area and be under their owner's supervision at all times.
