Friday Flix has returned to the Avoca Public Library! Join us each Friday morning in June and July at 10:00 a.m., to watch a free children's movie, as part of our Summer Reading programming. This summer, kids can read for pizza at the Avoca Public Library! Pizza Hut in Harlan has provided us with coupons for personal pizzas for kids to earn throughout the summer, all they have to do is check out books and read! Stop in the library to sign up and for more information!

The Avoca Public Library will have a very special guest this week at Storytime, with Lori Lynn Ahrends's Overall Buddies performing as part of our Summer Reading series: "Plant a Seed, Read!" Lori Lynn's performance is sure to get your kids dancing, singing, and reading all summer long! Be sure to scope out your spot early for this fun concert, at 10:30 a.m. this Wednesday!

The Summer Reading program kicks off this week at the Avoca Public Library! This year our theme is "Plant a Seed, Read!," so we'll be learning about agriculture all summer long during storytime. In this first week, we'll learn how growing all starts with healthy soil. We'll read two picture books, plant and paint our indoor herb garden containers, and make a yummy "compost" cup snack! Join us for all the fun, starting this Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

The book Amazing Iowa, by Michelle Sprout Murray, is a fun-fact book about Iowa. I learned so much about Iowa. Some of the topics are (a) the mother of 4-H, (b) the Spirit Lake Massacre, (c) the Villisca Ax Murders, (d) the Van Meter Visitor, (e) the Brady Street Banshee, (f) Jack Trice & Nile Kinnick, and (g) the creator of Rice Krispies Treats. And the book covers so many more people and places. If you enjoy interesting facts about Iowa, this book is for you. You may even want to vacation in Iowa!

You may want to come into the Avoca Public Library through the back door so you can see the wonderful display from the Sweet Vale of Avoca Museum! They are looking for pictures of historical homes and businesses in Avoca, and have some photos on display they could use help with identifying. This is a small taste of what is on display at the museum, if you haven't been there yet, add it to your summer to do list! It is located at 504 North Elm Street and is open through the summer on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00-4:00. You won't be disappointed!

This week at the Avoca Public Library's Wednesday morning storytime, we're going camping! Join us at 10:30 at the library, where we'll practice pitching a tent, before reading a couple of fun, funny picture books inside of it and going "fishing" for local-fish coloring sheets.
