This week we're celebrating Winnie-the-Pooh's 100th birthday at Sam Garcia Library!

•Adult Grab & Go: Celebrate Pooh Bear (Ages 18+)
Take a cozy trip to the Hundred Acre Wood. Enjoy a little “smackerel” of something with chamomile tea and relaxing activities inspired by Pooh’s favorite things. Now available while supplies last.

Youth Wednesday: Honey Slime (Ages 5-12)
Celebrate Pooh's favorite food by making some honey slime!

•Thursday October 15, 2026 at 11 am
Family Storytime (Ages birth - 4): Celebrate the power of a great stuffed animal! Participants will go home with their own mini-stuffed animals.

•Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 3:30 pm
Teen Weekly: Bee Keychains (Ages 13-17)
Learn how to make a cute bee keychain!

All programs are free. Registration is not required.

Thank you to Mary from the P. W. Litchfield Heritage Center for teaching us about the rich history of the Southwest Valley! We learned so much about the people, places, and events that helped shape our community into the great city we know today.

Keep celebrating with us! Avondale celebrates its history and heritage during a multi-day festival that features favorite elements including the bustling carnival, live entertainment, variety of food vendors. Visitors of all ages can explore cultural showcases and exhibitors.

Youth Wednesday at Sam Garcia Library is a weekly program for ages 5–12! Each week, youth can explore a new topic through a fun, hands-on activity designed to encourage creativity and curiosity.

Here’s what’s coming up in October:

Wednesday, Oct. 7: Magic Wands
Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter movie by designing and creating your own pretend magic wand!

Wednesday, Oct. 14: Winnie-the-Pooh
Celebrate the 100th birthday of everyone’s favorite honey-loving bear with a fun honey slime activity.

Wednesday, Oct. 21: Grab & Go – Billy Moore Days
Take the fun home with a Grab & Go activity kit containing everything you need to complete a project at home. Please note: There will be no scheduled in-person Youth Wednesday activity this day.

Wednesday, Oct. 28: Sugar Skulls
This annual favorite is back! Youth will learn about the history and significance of Día de los Mu***os before decorating their own sugar skull to take home.

All library programs are free, and registration is not required. We hope to see you at Youth Wednesday!

As we celebrate our 80th Anniversary, we would love for you to share your family's memories for our 80th Anniversary Community Scrapbook—a collection of photos, stories, artwork and memories that capture what life in Avondale looks like in the year 2026. Some submissions may even become part of our 2026 Time Capsule, giving future generations a glimpse into the people and moments that made this year special.

What a paw-some day! From adorable pups and Halloween costumes to fun activities, delicious food, and great community vibes, we had such a blast celebrating with all of you!
