Our Mission is to promote the use, understanding, knowledge, growth, development, operation and management of the Moosehorn NWR and refuge system of the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The Friends of Moosehorn work to increase local support for the refuge, to encourage volunteer involvement in the ongoing work of the refuge. Our support, as advocates, volunteers and fundraisers, enables the refuge a

nd its staff to continue to protect the wildlife, its habitat and the opportunities they provide for a wide variety of recreation and education activities.

With over 18 miles of Shoreline, Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge has vital habitat that plays a larger role in the whole ecosystem. Shorebirds continue to be a seriously threatened group of birds globally, and many shorebird species rely heavily on interconnected networks of wetlands and coastal habitats spread across entire continents and flyways.

These Global Shorebird Counts are not intended to function as formal scientific censuses. Instead, the effort aims to encourage participation in bird monitoring and strengthen awareness of why repeated observation matters.

The week of July 20-24th, Friends president, Eric Mauricette (center, dark blue with hat) had the opportunity to attend Friends Academy at the National Conservation Training Center! A wealth of knowledge, guidance and training achieved. Lots to apply to the FOM and th future of the organization. A small group of 23, many friendships with other friends groups from Washington, Florida, Minnesota, Maryland, New York and Vermont to name a few!
